Where to FindSteel Hardware for a T/C Hawken

I don't know about the product mentioned above but I bought a TC stock with brass fittings that some on had blackened the brass with something, the only way to get off the black was to sand it off and it didn't sand off easily.

This about the same thing at a very good price...

    Vent hole location?

I moved the barrel back on a TC that had a touch hole too far forward and completely repositioned the lock on a pre-carve that had the lock inlet low and back. I have posted this a bunch of times before but this is as bad as it gets for a factory lock inlet, I fixed it

    Advice needed on mid-late 70's TC Hawk 28"b w/1:48t

Not having tried to pull a ballistic tip round, I suspect the pointed tip will deflect the screw point and not let it screw into the bullet. Shooing the bullet out with a light charge under the nipple or using a CO2 discharger may be your only option short of putting a zirk fitting in the nipple...

Flintlock or percussion for a first purchase?

Starting out I would go with a percussion rifle instead of a smoothbore, the learning curve for a rifle is much shorter than a smoothbore. After you get this B/P loading, shooting and cleaning stuff down, buy a smoothbore in flint.

Fair price for NE shotgun stock??

There is one on eBay but it isn't cheap, $265 shipped, lots of them without the hardware. Buying the hardware for a bare stock can get very expensive. I would guess around $200 for your stock would be a fair price; eBay prices are out the roof. I posted a "wanted" ad here for a complete Hawken...

Range Test: .45Cal Double PRB deer load

Roundball did a lot of experimenting with different loads that I found interesting even if I never shot any of the loads he tested. Unfortunately, the purist know-it-all jerks here gave him a hard time almost every time he posted, he finally got tired of it and left.

NW Alabama Meet n Greet Fall 2024

I plan to be there, injured my bicep muscle, may just do a lot of talking, don't know if I can stand any recoil or gun loading.

    DIY cleaning patches

I use the baby blanket cotton fleece from Joann's, a fabric cutting wheel and the cutting board makes cutting large numbers of cleaning patches very easy.

Info please with cocking effort on Hawken percussion lock

Never thought much about hammer pull weight, only trigger pull. Just now I got out my TC Hawken percussion kit gun with only about 25 shots through it and measured the hammer cocking strength, it came out to 11 pounds 13 oz. Next, I tested my most recent build which is a flintlock with a Deluxe...

    Frozen stall image

If you tie a leather thong from your trigger guard to the stall and adjust the length to where you have to tug on the stall to get it to slip over the frizzen it won't come off, I use deer hide which is stretchy. I leave one on my guns if they are loaded and stored for the next hunt shot...

    How much to pay

Look down the barrel before you buy it, way too many TCs have gremlins hiding in the barrel from not being cleaned properly.

Is My Bird Gun A Deer Gun?

I have a Gustomsky 20ga trade gun, I tried every kind of load including cardboard shot cups to get it to pattern. The shot cups worked great if they opened up but about half the time they slugged and didn't open up. Shooting shot with just over powder and shot wads my pattern was so bad that I...

    Possible gunpowder related tragedy

Why criticize the OP for his choice of words? He told us a cautionary tale that we can't be too careful with no conclusions intended. I am sure this was a very traumatic event to witness, he should be commended for helping save the elderly man. I have witnessed several life threating injuries...

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

If I did the carving, I would be turning a silk purse into a sow's ear, plain rifles are best for me.

Question for the many builders about lock finish

    I took this picture before I polished the lock after some test firing, the gun doesn't look finished to me, I had just grayed the barrel. Polished looks much better;

Not enough actuation in T/C Hawken hammer?

I have built a few TCs out of random parts, I was initially surprised to find they are not the cookie cutter duplicates one would expect. Early models, late models and perhaps just the people who assembled them made them different.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I re-coned the barrel I mentioned above, I used two 220 grit squares, one 320 grit and four 400 grit ones. I tested the patch/ball fit frequently after every square of sandpaper I used. After the last round of polishing, I could easily thumb start a ball and a lubed patch down to the patch...
