    Stripping a Buttstock Finish?

I have done several TCs, Citristrip on the first one and cheaper Kleen Strip on the second, both worked well. Plan on a couple of applications to get everything out of every nook and cranny, the stuff works better in warm weather, you can use Citristrip indoors, Kleen strip needs to be used well...

    Recommendations for a borescope

This is a $9 scope from eBay; This is a $49.95 Teslong off Amazon.

    Better off buying a gun?

I built a TC Renegade from random parts, I had to buy a few things like an under-rib and screws at scalper prices off eBay. I picked up a NOS barrel in the white for $65 which got me started but after buying an L&R lock and all of the other needed parts, I had $425 in the finished gun.

    How clean is your bore?

The rifle in the blue picture has the touchhole drilled into the breech plug, the friend that gave the rifle told me he had a new touchhole liner put in it at Friendship years ago. This is an unusual gun, it can't be taken apart, whoever built it used finishing nails for the pins but left the...

Lock and barrel finish for fowler?

I did the gray thing on my fowler but left the lock bright but not polished, more of a satin finish bright. The gray finish is not durable, it will rub off with use, particularly on the butt plate. Ten years down the road a patina has formed on the barrel and lock, even with the parts well...

    How clean is your bore?

A Teslong bore scope will show you things in your bore you can't unsee. I have a Bill Large barrel gun that will shoot a tight cloverleaf at 50 yards every time, with my cheap scope looking down the barrel it looks shiny and new. I didn't take a Teslong picture because it shows a good bit of...

    Strange day at the range

I just smile and say hi to the unfriendly guys, most of the time this melts their ice-cold exterior but then again, some people have the personality of a clod of dirt and can't be reached. NO ONE is going to cause me to pack up and leave, I just pretend they don't exist and go about my...

    Track of the Wolf

I have taken the hump off on a belt sander with a worn-out belt that I didn't mind ruining.

From my dad: Smoothbore 'trade musket'

The rifling is showing, not a smoothbore.

Long bar sight for a Kibler SMR

Do a search for peep sights, lots of info will come up and people who sell them. I have never seen a long bar sight on a gun. I made my own peep for my .54 deer rifle, after a lot of bending and adjustment it works well. I sold my Kibler SMR because I couldn't see the rear sight, I thought...

    TC .45 Question

Sounds like the previous owner gave the gun a name, I used to give my guns a name, not so much anymore.

    T/C 15/16" barrel

Provided the barrel isn't drilled and tapped for a scope with deep holes, the barrel can be turned into a 20ga if I remember correctly. Update; another guy just posted the same question and said he talked to Mr. Hoyt. Perhaps my info is incorrect, he said Bobby would go to .60 smooth on a 1"...

    Walnut board

I don't get to hung up on a perfectly planed stock blank, it only needs to be perfectly flat on the top side where you inlet the barrel. Perfectly square sides aren't going to matter as soon as you start shaping the stock.

    Re-bore Limits?

I had a 15/16" TC barrel bored from .50 to .54 as well as a C weight Rice barrel bored from .50 to .54. It depends on who made the barrel and what size it is. I checked the Rice Barrel page, 13/16" to .45, 7/8" to 50, 15/16" to 54, B weight Barrel to .50, C weight to .54, D weight to 58.

    Kibler kits lead time?

Back about a year ago they had SMRs and Colonials in abundance in the quick ship section, few if any were blems.

    Hard to find flintlock

I had cataract surgery after I sold my SMR, I can see the sights on my rifles just fine now. I made this for my .54 before I had cataract surgery, I could see my sights so well it felt like cheating after looking at blurry sight for the last 10 years or so.

    Kibler kits lead time?

Keep checking their "quick ship" section, they might have just what you are looking for, boxed up and ready to go. They only have one 16ga fowler in their quick ship section now.

    Hard to find flintlock

I sold a Kibler SMR because my old eyes saw a blur of a rear sight, it went to a good home. I wouldn't sell any of my other 5 flintlocks, I made 4 of them and was given the 5th by a friend with terminal cancer.

Controversial question. Short rodding a patched ball.

My two short starts went bloop instead of bang.

Condemning an old rifle, rather than repairing it.

I would do it if it were mine but not for someone else. I learned the hard way repairing bows for people for free that I should have left alone. I ended up having more work in them than it would have taken me to build two new bows. I have often mentioned my pre-carve rifle from hell, the...
