Need help finding hook tang for barrel

I’ve done a handful in the past without issue but those were new barrels. Never had to pull a plug before.

Need help finding hook tang for barrel

Yeah that’s definitely on my list. I’m not a strong or heavy man so I don’t have a lot to put into a wrench but surely it’s definitely on there tight. I had all my weight on a wrench the other day trying to get it to budge to no avail. Maybe I’ll soak it in penetrating oil over night and try again

Need help finding hook tang for barrel

I debated that but I can’t find anyone local who will even touch a muzzleloader. Even asked a few machinists who didn’t want to because of the “pressure produced”. Local smiths won’t touch it because muzzleloaders aren’t their forte.

Need help finding hook tang for barrel

Hi, I bought a barrel off a guy on here a while back and I haven’t been able to figure out a tang that’ll fit it. I’ve tried TC and investaarms tangs as well as an L&R but none fit. It’s a .54 unmarked 1 inch octagonal barrel. Original message said it was “Bought out Doc White of GRRW” if that...

Rice Golden Age 48” barrel finding a stock blank

Hello, I ordered a .45 caliber 48” Rice golden age barrel a few weeks back to make a half stock SMR with and I’ve decided to go with something more like the Killdeer rifle from the last of the Mohicans. Not sure why. Anyway, does anyone know of anyone making a stock blank preinlet for this...

Nipple placement on direct nipple to barrel guns(mule ears and such)

That’s what I figured too. I don’t have a UH anymore or I’d double check myself. But I know people swear by having vent holes going through the breech plug into the center of the bore on flintlocks so I wasn’t sure.

Nipple placement on direct nipple to barrel guns(mule ears and such)

I’m planning out a few builds for the next few months and was wondering about placement of nipples on guns where the nipple threads directly into the barrel instead of a drum like on Mule ears and the converted 1836 pistols. Can someone tell me which layout is more appropriate or if there’s a...

    Barrel ribs and half stocks

I’m just wondering, when did half stocks and barrel ribs come around? Don’t really see them until the 1800’s and I’m just wondering when and where they really developed. Can’t seem to find an answer. Come to think of it, I don’t recall seeing too many flintlocks with half stocks and ribs, seems...
