    One ugly rescue mission

Forgive a stupid question, but why bother trying to keep the old brass spacer? Would it be possible to use the old brass spacer as a template, and but a new spacer of suitable width, out of a piece of hardwood? Blend or contrast colors as you prefer?

    ID on a Charleville Musket

Total WAG on my part: Any chance it might have been a "buck and ball" with birdshot?

    Loading anxiety.

I understand your anxiety, and share it to an extent. I always run a damp patch down the bore between shots.

    Thinner Pillow Ticking?

You can also use worn out blue jeans, although the thickness may vary somewhat, due to wear. Also consider worn out 100% cotton T-shirts for either patching material, or just cleaning patches.

    My new toy.

Welcome back to Muzzleloading. It is a nice rifle. Even thoufgh it is .54 cal, I would suggest trying it with about 35 grains of 2F at 25 yards, to make it easier on your shoulder.

Poof! (How to shoot powder without a load)

That is what I do. The club I shoot at requires swabbing after every shot, anyway, so I have no problem.

    What Are the Odds?

Thank you for that information. The last time I had to replace a toilet ring, it WAS pure beeswax.

New Member, New (to me) T/C Hawken

Add a sharp knife, a spare nipple, and a nipple wrench to the shooting bag. You will need them.

    So this happened today

Stupid question of the day: Is the nipple clear? Hold the nipple up: can you see through it? If not, that may be the problem.

    Black powder?

I have a .32 with identical problems. I have a friend, who has more experience with flintlocks, make some suggestions that really helped: 1) Swab after each shot to remove fouling, and make reloading easier. 2) Keep a pick in the touch hole while loading. If the pick moves when seating the...

Unfired TC Hawken with laminated stock

That looks like something you will enjoy owning, as well as shooting.

    What Are the Odds?

Go to your local hardware store and ask for a wax toilet ring. It is almost pure beeswax.

    T/C Renegade in .54 caliber?

Congratulations. My very first black powder rifle was a .54 T/C Renegade, and I still have it.

    Best inexpensive BP pistol

IMO, get a T/C Patriot. Production stopped in the '70's, but used ones run around $300-$400. Available in .36 and .45 cal, with double set triggers.
