Flint and frizzen engagement: How good is too good?

Thanks. Makes perfect sense to reduce the “tooth strike” to a minimum to where you still get good ignition. I get this is strictly a wild *** guess and opinion on your part but do you think I have too much in your experience?

Flint and frizzen engagement: How good is too good?

Well yes. The wild idea was not for looks but for spark efficiency and longevity of the frizzen - if that is even a thing. I fully understand the frizzen is going to get all dinged up and mauled (not that’s what I have have happening I think) I was just curious if anybody had an idea of how much...

Flint and frizzen engagement: How good is too good?

Question for the old hands. Have a new musket and have about 10 shots thru it. No misfires and everything worked great but of course I’m always pondering and perhaps overthinking. Below pic is the frizzen after 10 flawless shoots. I don’t suspect trouble but was wondering: Is it possible to have...

    Leatherman Bags

Bought leather from there though not a bag. Anyway top shelf quality. Based on my experience shop without trepidation.

    Stupid question: Lefty loosey?

And there’s this. And you are correct. Ultimately, as of right this moment, it does not. But it’s there, the final frontier so to speak :) , and I certainly may have to someday so I may as well get it figured out now.

    Stupid question: Lefty loosey?

Alrighty thank you gentlemen. Wanted to double check before trying other things like Kroil or more ridiculous level brute force.

    Stupid question: Lefty loosey?

The bolt holding the hammer in the lock. For my entire life I’ve gone by the old saw “righty tighty, lefty loosey” and it has served me well 99.8% of the time but I know there are certain specialized applications where this can be reversed. I’ve had my entire musket apart multiple times except...

    Trade Gun VS Brown Bess

Thats the cool part of these guns. Like you ARE holding history. And you get to shoot it. Winning. I just have to decide if I wanted to wait for the Pedersoli Baker or get a Bess now to join the French collection.

Baker rifle by Persersoli. Any news?

Pedersoli better make a Baker rifled. Seems to be kinda the whole point to me. Though I truly can’t imagine them going the smoothbore route. As an owner of several Pedersolis I’m not worried about quality - it’s price!

    Stocks: Same wood, different looks.

Its does thank you. I’ve edited plenty but the button was missing. Over the time limit I reckon.

Help: Lack of loading data for .69 caliber.

Yes. The OP is 9 months old. I’m a salty veteran now. :)

Help: Lack of loading data for .69 caliber.

A “French style cartridge”, with a .65 caliber ball is what I currently use in my Pedersoli French repros. Measured the bores on arrival but now forget. Real close .69 but I forget exactly…or of they are all roughly the same. Note to self.

    Stocks: Same wood, different looks.

I’ve done a bit more work (on these) and besides the BLO/Mineral Spirit mix I was going straight BLO between coats just because straight is what I have always done previously. The stocks above are my first use of the “mix.” Anyway, if anyone cares, comparing the two both in application...

    Stocks: Same wood, different looks.

Own some Pedersolis and, not liking the (maybe practical) polyurethane finish, stripped it off chemically followed up by light sanding and acetone. All were redone with BLO with initial coats and final coat being a BLO/Mineral Spirit mix. Highly recommend the mix at least initially. Now when I...

Baker rifle by Persersoli. Any news?

Ouch. While I like Pedersoli I definitely have my price limits. It’s not like I’m shooting my current collection too much as it is. Paid slightly less then half that on my last one and that was pushing it. Supposed to be a fun hobby not painful! ;)

Baker rifle by Persersoli. Any news?

Yes. The third and final model was a .65 caliber barrel to shoot a .62 caliber patched bullet from my reading. One would hope Pedersoli would “follow the history” but they did not specifically mention a caliber. Wonder what model (caliber) is the one they bought to design after. Believe the very...

Baker rifle by Persersoli. Any news?

Yes. As an owner of multiple Pedersolis now, they are all great and beautiful with zero issues, they were not cheap. Not eye poppingly bend-me-over expensive but your wallet certainly feels it. And I will admit to having concerns about a planned Baker price. Some of their stuff is very...

Baker rifle by Persersoli. Any news?

Pedersoli responded fast and informative as always. All of the information in the previous email is correct but, due to multiple reasons - including high demand on current models which most have noted, the project has been pushed back to 2023 sadly.
