    Issue with casting minie ball

OP, I suggest you try a different method of slugging your bore. Here is a method utilizing Brownells Cerrosafe casting metal that I used for years in my business. First clean the bore as good as you can then lightly oil the first few inches. Next wad up some cotton fabric so you can push it...

Same to you and yours and all the MLF folks.

36 or 44 best centerfire upgrade

Track of the Wolf is a good place. Dixie Gun Works is another although they are more expensive. If you are not a die hard BP person, I would buy Pyrodex P from Walmart or Bass Pro if you have them around you.

36 or 44 best centerfire upgrade

Hell, I would buy the new one from EMF.

36 or 44 best centerfire upgrade

First off, EMF was bought by Pietta and is now used as their importer. Buying from them is no different (except for price) than you can get anywhere else. As for Taylors, they spec out certain requirements for their offerings and they also have in house tuned guns for a little more cash...

36 or 44 best centerfire upgrade

The rifle takes .350 balls and the pistols take .375 or .380 balls. The conversion cylinders are chambered in 38 special and 38 Long Colt, .44 Colt, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt to the best of my recollection.

36 or 44 best centerfire upgrade

Modern conversion cylinder have been made for years and are still being made by Taylors, Kirst and Howell. The conversions made in the 1800's were made to covert existing muzzleloaders into cartridge guns. They stopped making them as cartridge pistols became readily available not that there was...

Beef Tallow instead of Mutton for wonder wads???

That is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. ;)

    Pietta Problem

I would say that Dude is probably correct. The repro revolvers are made of very soft metal and probably won't appreciate too much heating without using heat sinks and pin pointing the heat exactly where you need it. As for the epoxy not working, it will if you rough up the metal on the base...

Beef Tallow instead of Mutton for wonder wads???

I use durofelt punched out with my home made punches and a mixture of beeswax, crisco and olive oil. I heat them in a pot (outdoors with a fire extinguisher nearby ;)) and then drop in the wads. When they soak up all the mixture, I let it cool and then put it in the frig. After a couple hours I...

Round balls for .36 cal pistols are .375 and .380.

    Pietta Problem

Good for you. If you can put a light bulb over it overnight, it will shorten the cure time.

    Pietta Problem

OP, if you don't have the ability to re solder the latch, then I suggest that you clean it up with solvent and use JB weld on it. I have done a few of those over the years and they are still working fine. (and I shoot them, they are not wall hangers)

How many shots can you get-When you have a GREAT flint ?

IMHO, three of the most important issues with a flintlock are the mainspring pressure, frizzen spring pressure and frizzen temper. It takes time using and tuning a flintlock to get all three in perfect sync but, when you do, you have a gun that fires the same way every time. Sparks are hotter...

The Shooting Has Begun with the GPR

It looks like you have cleaned out the rough spots and should have a good shooting rifle from now on. FYI, since they are made in Italy, you can always tell an Italian rifle year of manufacture by the date code in the square box stamped on the barrel. Yours will have an AN in the box...

    t/c hawkens twist rate

Many of Thompson Centers barrels were made by Investarms and were of 1 in 48 twist. As has been reported, Fox Ridge made 1 in 66 twist barrels and they were dang good shooters. Too bad they went out of business.

The Shooting Has Begun with the GPR

Investarms barrels have been know to have sharp lands in them for years. I have always recommended bore lapping (when I had my business) which would stop patch cutting much faster than waiting to shoot it smooth. Thicker patches will work but you will have to drive the ball in with a hammer...

The GOEX Plant is shutting down

The only solution to our problem is Tort Reform. Hopefully some politicians will realize that fewer and fewer newer businesses are starting and that is not good for the Nation. If we can change the rules that are now allowing anyone to sue for anything, then maybe we have a chance.
