    What size container?

A variant on the crimped & leaded copper tube might be sections ofg small diameter (1/4 or 3/8")copper tube, with bottom wooden dowel plugs, trimmed flush and glued in, corks to seal the tops, and a wooden loading block, drilled to accept the tubes. A bit of work, but it could be elegant, in...

    Mounting a Flint

I like both the ideas of resin and of pre-gluing the leathers to the flints; have to try them. I've tried leather, lead, and some scraps of copper termite shield I had scrounged. They all worked- sort of- but I've asettled back to braintan buckskin, which seems to hold most reliably for me.

    I’m still alive

My sympathy, thoughts, & prayer to you and your wife, Cowboy. I've lost several dear friends to cancer, but I doubt anyone who's not faced it as close as you have can really appreciate. Strength to both of you. For me, muzzleloading is a challenge, an outlet for my perfectionism and love of...

    Time well spent.

    Curly ash

The grain of those ash stocks are striking. Could a borer-killed tree be any good for stock wood? Local wood workers have made beautiful table tops from the, which arte clearly still sound. Or have I wauted too long after the kill-off ...again.

Wtb .485 or .486 round ball mold. Lee or lyman.

I couldn't find one listed either. I just stumbled across this one on fleabay. It looks like NOS. No other bidders. Just my day, I guess.

    Percussion caps in period

Just speculation, but a generation ago, most rural/farm folk would work on their own equipment, trucks and such; setting plugs, carburetors and such.many farmers routinely fix equipment, often making substitutes for parts not on hand. Because these bits of technology are essential to them...

    Rifles of the 1830s

Very nice stock figuring in what seems to me a good example. Price seems fair, too. If I were looking for one...

    long term goal finally finished

And a beautiful flint double, as well. Congratulations.

    Shooting at indoor ranges

If the stations are too close together, flintlocks aren't likely to be welcomed bt the shooter to your right... I felt it only fair trade for the backwash from his muzzle brake - and that was at an outdoor range!

    Dear OLE TIMERS, Act Now

12 step program? Let's see: wipe oil from barrel - 1; measure powder -2; pour down bore - 3; lay patching over muzzle -4; place ball on patching -5; push ball flush -7; trim patch -8; short start ball & patch-9; drive ball/patch down home-10; fill pan - 11: pull trigger ...yep, 12 steps...

    It's here....

For a stuck patch, it sometimes helps to run some lubricant down the bore on top of it. Most of the time, that's all it takes. I carry a small flask of alcohol for that (and swabbing between shots).

    BRUSHING

I agree, but there are other types ( blue) which are sod as non-scratch & safe for Teflon coated cookware.

Wtb .485 or .486 round ball mold. Lee or lyman.

I've tried .480 RB as an easier to load charge for my .50, which seemed to work, but just bought a Lee .485 RB mold. I figure it might be an interesting compromise. Haven't gotten around to casting any but looking forward to trying that size.

Two more scratched off a too long list

Hello, I'm F Scot and I have terminal GAS. I fell off and under the wagon about 5 years ago, after nearly 40 yrs of respectability. I caught this dread disease when I was a young, impressionable hellion. My reentry drug was a RNA .36, then I stole a short Tradition Hawken. Then at...

    "Building Blind" rifle is finished

Dave & Josh, That is an outstandingly beautiful rifle; a lasting tribute to you both. Anyone, this century or two past, would be proud to carry such a piece. I trust that Josh will go on to distinguish himself with it. I've a strong hunch that this story is only beginning. Dave, you are a...

I was gifted a treasure trove of ML rifles and accessories awhile back.

Thank you for your story. Welcome to the Dark Side (B P). Let it be known, the adage about no good deed... isn't always right. From your story, it seems clear that you valued your friendship more than your inheritance. Hopefully.\, he infused you with his passion and a bit of his knowledge...

    This screw won't budge!

That's the tool I found. Haven't tried it yet, but not trying to do fine work with a standard sized impact makes more sense to me. That's like trying to pull a brad with a crowbar; control's hard but damage is easy.

    This screw won't budge!

I discovered a 1/4" hand impact wrench on Amazon (where else? among other places). I'm fighting to loosen a pair of firmly rusted in nipples on a SBS. It's the next tool I plan to use.

Combination Loading Block / Powder Measure

Cumberland voiced my question. Your sight is an elegant version of what I've been trying to cobble up. I need to copy it, to give old eyes a chance.. Is the upright slotted to adjust elevation? Do you have any lateral adjustment? Thanks.
