Cap & Ball Revolvers Technical Books

Thank you, Phil. This is very, very helpful.

    A muzzle loading assault rifle

There might be a little creep in the trigger pull but, yes, it would work just fine. Accuracy not so much. Thanks for this - it's a good start to my day. I did some searching and found more online. He solved the problem of fitting a breechplug by using a slide-in plug secured with cross pins...

    Cane Cannon

Nice looking and a great idea.

    Making Percussion Caps

I second doubling the can stock. Just use two layers in the punch and the caps will be much stiffer and hold on to the nipple. I'm using doubled caps on revolvers with original nipples and having no trouble at all.

    Traditions Crockett kit thoughts?

I notice that the kit gun seems to have a hooked breech. My factory rifle does not, it is screwed in. My finished gun had some minor fitting problems with the barrel and ramrod channel but nothing I couldn't fix.

    brass springs?

Take a look into a barometer. Pretty sure that is a brass spring.

    Public Apology

Just how is the barrel damaged? Maybe it's fixable by the right person. Post some pictures and maybe one of our knowledgeable folks can help.

    Weld paste, It worked........

Looks like a good joint to me. Just scrape or file the excess and call it good.

Would you put money into it or leave it alone?

I don't think it's a big deal from what I can see in the photos. How much recoil does a .32 have after all. It would be different if it was an elk hunting .54 with conicals.

    Revoling wheellock pistol

They all look amazingly pristeen like in a jewler's case. Maybe none of these were ever actually fired? I think Sam has a good point - too bad we can't ask the makers.

Yep, get home wet and cold and talk about the fun. No more.

    Diy shotgun

If you look around there are some barrels available. Not from muzzleloaders, but you can cut off the chamber end and fit a breechplug. I found a 12 gage barrel blank a while back and built a matchlock. Look at places that sell parts for more modern guns.

    Touch hole diameter.

You can always make it larger later.

    accuracy

That is a very interesting read indeed. Battlefield accuracy is much different from hunting or target use. Keeping in mind that on a battlefield a wound is a desirable outcome - the enemy doesn't have to die to be out of action.

    Slow match diameter recomendation

I bought a ball of hemp cord from Joannes fabric. If you do the saltpeter soak it swells up some so it's a little larger. It burns with a really good red hot coal and lights the pan powder well. I guess you could twist or braid it to get a larger diameter but I don't find it necessary. A...

    Good, cheap bore lights

Drop a pistol case down the bore. Brass or nickel doesn't matter and peek down with a penlight. Lots of good, inexpensive ideas here.

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

At 20 pounds and only .75 caliber the recoil was probably tolerable. Does the trigger push straight up or does it slide? An amazing gun.

Five Different Powders Chrono'd in Two Rifles

This is very interesting indeed. Thank you for testing these.
