    Flintlock Snobbery

That looks a lot like something off the rack at Cabela’s or wherever.

Has any old powder ca 1750-1880 been studied?

I got to wondering if there have been any 20th or 21st century academic studies/ analysis of surviving powder from the days of yore. I’m curious how it might compare chemically to what we have available today, especially stuff that was produced here in the early US cottage industries and our...

    Personal introduction

Hi there Luis. Retired Army here (1995-2015) and also newish to muzzleloading. I’ve kinda tipped to the point that anything modern is now boring to me and I file it under “tool”. Seems you’re enjoying your new sickness just as much as I’ve been haha.

    Wholesale Hunter

I have *not* done business with them personally, so I did a search. They’ve had 15 recent complaints filed with the BBB. 10% of their feedback on GB in the last 30 days has been negative. https://www.bbb.org/us/al/wetumpka/profile/hunting-gear/wholesalehuntercom-0463-90046160/complaints

    CLOSED Powderhorn w/ strap wanted

It’s time to upgrade my generic, boring horn to something nice. Looking for a nice horn with a decent strap already affixed. Would prefer something appropriate to 1840 or earlier. Right hand carry for an average sized man. I’ll send a check or pay digitally thru paypal F&F. Not gonna make an...

    Pedersoli Frontier .54

Nice rifle. I had a Pedersoli Blue Ridge which is the same gun by a different name and it would shoot single hole groups at 30 yards on the regular. It was my first flinter, in fact. Strange timing, but I just sold it to a friend yesterday afternoon to make room for my new trade gun.

What to Read during Social Isolation?

I can second the books by AB Guthrie. The Big Sky is a great story and gets into nice details like the decisions people had to make about whether to stick with their flinters or convert to the new cap locks out in the wilderness. It’s a melancholy story that’s masterfully written.

Best Muzzleloading Magazines. Which is right for me?

I subscribed to Muzzleloader this morning based on the replies to this thread. Looking forward to getting my first issue. I have several issues of Muzzle Blasts lying around and I don’t *dislike* it, but I see what’s meant about it being for a wide audience.

Ox Yoke 1000 lube+ who uses it?

What’s your ratio of the 2? Do you measure by weight or volume, etc? I’m shopping for a new recipe so I’d like to try what’s working well for others.

    How long without cleaning?

I usually have a very similar approach. It really depends on where I am and how much time I have, how hot it is outside, etc. I'm experimenting with new lube recipes in an effort to find something that'll work well on a woods walk and won't require the swab between each shot. Currently using the...

    How long without cleaning?

Nothing to worry about if you’re using real BP. If you’re using pyrodex your gun starts rusting as soon as you open the can.
