I am in the middle of some business dealings with master gunsmith and gun builder extraordinaire Steve Zihn, he has worked on and sighted in a gun for me. he uses "Ox Yoke 1000 lube+" I just wonder how many use it and the results you get. I have never tried it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

A lot of people don’t like it. My wife uses it in a little 40 cal smoothrifle and it does all that is necessary to hit centre. Just one opinion.

This time of year the stuff is in a liquid state around here. Basically Chapstick with color and fragrance added. Have found homemade stuff more customizable for the weather (temperature). Beeswax, olive oil and tallow mixed until you get the texture that works. Some will add Murphys to get more of a creamer mix. Can color code with food coloring for different temperature mixes.

If Ox Yoke 1000 lube works for you, great. Found it way to messy in my revolvers when shooting SASS and inconsistent as a patch lube. I shoot in temperatures from the teens to about a hundred degrees.

Cleaning up some guns from a shooting session earlier today. Had a gun on a bench outside so put a dab of Wonder Lube on the barrel.

Now it is hot today, but again, little use for it, especially for this time of year.

I am in SC today 94 degrees with 100% humidity and feels like 102 or so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Not to bad here today. Mid 90s with a heat index or ‘feels like’ of only 107° when I checked earlier. Mid 90s and 50% chance of rain the next few days. Good time to brown or rust blue a gun. Just clean it and take it outside.

When I was shooting earlier today guns were almost too hot to handle.

Humidity is just over 70%, but on its way to 100%. You can hear the thunder and the clouds are staring to build. Will have a downpour within the hour to complement our mid 90°s temperature, which will drop while it rains, then quickly climb back up to turn all that rain into steam once the sun is back out. Does keep the grass green and the garden growing.

we stay in or close to 100% all the time in July and Aug. when it is 100 degrees and the humidity drops below 70% we feel like we are in fall weather! LOL I wish we could be cooler but even in oct-Dec. I have saw it hot. I remember at Christmas one year in particular it was 85 degrees! i have saw it in the 89s in the winter then the next day it would be freezing. like they say if you don't like the weather today, wait till tomorrow, it will change,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I use wonderlube 1000 occasionally if that's the same thing. Not the best lube, and yes it does get a little messy this time of year. Not the best but it does work. I like to use it on my last shot when using spit patch. I believe it gives me a little leeway until I get home to clean my gun.

It's ok but no way does it absorb salts so do use it but please don't use it for storage! For all round use and storage nothing beats beeswax and olive oil.
Agree on it absorbing salts as will any concoction with water. Olive oil and beeswax (you can add tallow and/or lanolin if you want to experiment) have worked for short term storage for me, and as long as you let any excess oil drain (store muzzle down for a day or two) the gun is ready to go without worrying about wiping the bore.

I have used Oxyoke lube since I started with muzzleloaders. Almost 40 years worth of shooting. Haven't had any problems yet. Did use a variant for a short time, Old Swamp Hunter. Same basic mixture, pretty blue color instead of yellow. OSH went out of business but Oxyoke continues on. I did get to visit the factory when it was in Milo, Maine. Long time ago. Good people, got to chat with them for a while.

What’s your ratio of the 2? Do you measure by weight or volume, etc? I’m shopping for a new recipe so I’d like to try what’s working well for others.
