Williams Peep Sights on T/C Hawken

“ custom made for my T/C Hawken” means it will fit, which it clearly does. Getting the p.o.I. to where you want it is completely up to you, the purchaser who went with a modification of the original rifle. Nothing wrong with that and I venture to guess that the overwhelming majority of us here...

    I’m curious

Worked up this load for hunting. Fired from a single point rest. Not “ Bench rest” precision by any means but flat enough to work well on deer &hogs out to my personal range limits with primitive iron sights and my 72 yr old eyes.

Lyman Deerstalker Hunting Peep Sight Suggestions

Coupla thoughts come to mind. In the last ten minutes of “shooting light” I’m going suggest that a peep sight would be pretty worthless, especially so at 90 yds. Without actual range time at 90-100 yds, there’s actually no way to know what you’re getting at those kind of ranges from your rifle...

Black powder substitute in TC hawken

"Back in the day"...when I was in Rhodesia an American hunter came over with a Sharps rifle and a Colonial Williamsburg Flintlock. He brought a bunch of loaded ammo with him, which, as you say...no problem. Part of it was loaded for the Sharps cartridge rifle. The rest was loaded with...

    dry patch lube

In my Green Mountain barrels, 1:7 Ballistol:water has proven to work best. Incredible precision when optimizing all components and shooting from a rest. My best combination is very tight ( dry patch of a lite canvas, .020 compressed, lubed as described by our friend Dutch-GBNF, .500 ball) very...

    JoAnns #40 cotton drill

I buy the JoAnn drill 3 yds at a time and find it measures.014-.015 ( compressed). Works great. Wash twice in hot water, machine dry then ( lightly) iron to make it cut better. I cut round patches, individually with left handed scissors. Very relaxing way to spend time. Sitting in my gun room...

    40 caliber load recommendation info

Starting at 40 will get you going. Your final "best" load will be determined by a variety of factors but ya gotta start somewhere. I have a friend with a very slow twist 40 caliber barrel ( 1:60 0r 66 can't remember which) that gets great results in the 60-70 gn range. My Rice barreled 1:48 40...

    Powder measure error

I use a pan primer made of the same material as your measure. It showed the same sort of split forming years ago. I smeared a little clear epoxy over the area and let it set for a couple days. Problem solved and the crack didn't get any worse.

SOLD Unfired, Like New 54 Cal GM T/C Drop-In Barrel

I have two GM drop-in barrels for my T/C Hawken style rifles and can attest to the quality and incredible precision they are capable of. Doing load development, shooting from 50 yds off a rest...the only challenge is to shrink the size of the one hole group I get from either one when I'm doing...

    That Evil Ember

Started shooting muzzleloading rifles in 1976 ( or so...) I've seen ONE, and One was enough. The individual involved was a "rapid fire-No wipe" type. He was also a very good shot. He used a ramrod with a large wooden ball on the end and when his load "cooked off" at the bench, that big wooden...

    Deer creek products

I purchased my most recent case of powder from them. Good price ( at that time, don't know what it is currently) and NO issues. Deer Creek bought out Tip Curtis' inventory after he passed and set up in Tip's building at Friendship at the Spring and Fall shoots.

    T/C Hawken woes

You may have resolved your issues. At the very least...I hope you also fit a new flint into your lock. Here's a few thoughts for anyone else reading this thread that might find them useful: My routine includes wiping the frizzen and flint between shots...ALSO the pan. I use a cleaning patch, or...

    Help reading patches

You might be able to improve the bore if you can fabricate a piece of “green wool” scrubbing material that will stay on your jag and be a very tight fit in the bore of your rifle. For a 54, some folks have used a 50 cal jag to get started with green wool. Otherwise, follow Ian’s advice. Get...

    Thoughts on Percussion Caps

When I shot caplock rifles, I found the RWS 1075 to be the best cap on the market.

    Pre ignition

Saw it happen at my club to a shooter near me at the loading bench. He was an excellent shot, firing a caplock rifle. He routinely loaded and fired quickly, with little time taken between shots and no attempt to wipe the bore after each shot. In this case, the rifle went off as he was seating...

Jim & Barbie Chambers Where Are You?

I'm following this issue closely, as I hope most of us are who are NMLRA members and have enjoyed the "Friendship experience" regardless of our ability to shoot, are doing. 😊 I believe this post (above) accurately sums up a big part of the issue for our vendor community. Thank you CuNosecap. I...
