    Pedersoli Jaeger or (future?) Baker?

The Baker rifle is a direct descendant from German "Jaeger" rifles. The British Army adopted the P-1776 as the Revolution kicked off in America, ordering 200 Rifles from a Gunmaker in Hannover Germany and making that the pattern for an additional 800 infantry rifles. These were too costly and...

    What do I have?

I'm never gonna be Ansel Adams and the photographs were good enough for a lot of folks to help me understand my gun. If you can lend me a photobooth and something better than an old casio phone camera maybe we can get some glamor shots of my guns...

    What do I have?

Thanks but it's the rifle not the shooter! I was working up the load from a bench rest. The lock is fast and sparks strong, and the set trigger breaks at 10oz.

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

The Remington is a superior mechanical design. The Colts have a more iconic silhoutte. Both are fun to shoot... If you can hold both and see what fits your hand better.

    What do I have?

I recently acquired this rifle. I love it! Shoots cloverleafs at 100yds but I would love to know the provenance if anyone can help. It's a .50 cal with a barrel by Bobby Hoyt. It has a double set, single phase trigger.

    Ruger Old Army Range Report

My pop has an ROA with fixed sights. not sure of the barrel length but it's around 7in. Standing at 100yds (NRA Military Target) you need to aim at the top ring of the target, with 25gr target loads that will get you groups under 4in. Full-power loads open up to 8in, but you can aim dead on. Not...

    Anyone ID this pistol?

As others have said this is clearly a modern Italian-made replica as shown by the proof marks. It looks like a forced "patina" where somone attacked the gun with sandpaper and steel wool. The wear doesn't look natural at all. If it was cheap it might make for nice home decor, but as a shooter or...

FOR SALE Pietta Starr Double Action .44 Cal Percussion Revolver

For sale is a Pietta-made replica of a Starr Arms Double Action Revolver. This particular gun is a great shooter both in double action and set-trigger mode. In great condition except for a cylinder ring. NOTE: These double-action models cannot be cycled by manually thumbing the hammer. You must...

    1858 Explosion from Smokeless

Not to undermine the danger of mistakenly using smokeless powder in place of BP, but target shooters at the turn of the century (and a few still today) used duplex loads for accuracy and reduced bore fouling. Mainly in BP cartridge guns, but also in cap 'n ball. This practice can be EXTREMELY...

Pyrodex “P” High Pressure Cylinder Over Rotation…..

I've used Blackhorn 209 in larger percussion revolvers without a problem (5gr charge of real BP under the 209) and that stuff is much hotter that Pyrodex. I suspect the problem is a combination of worn nipples and worn/too light springs. Worn nipples allow a larger jet of gas to blow back...

    Precusion Caps Making A Comeback.

Have you tried Dixons Muzzleloading in Kenpton? It's probably an hour ride north of you, and even during the worst of the shortages Greg always had some caps

Lost Accuracy with rolled paper cartridges, either 36 cal. Or 44 cal.

I've noticed the same with my attempts at paper cartridges. I've never been able to get target accuracy out of them. I think the accuracy problem is from inconsistent paper combustion. Perfectly fine for plinking at 10-15 yards and for man sized targets well past that, but not for precision...

    Hello from Pennsylvania!

Hi, I'm a grad student at a Pennsylvania university with a passion for antique firearms and living history. I recently made the leap from percussion to flintlock, and I'm hooked. I hunt, carry, and compete almost exclusively with blackpowder arms.
