Trying to get ready for an Elk hunt.

As I posted earlier my dad and I got drawn for Idaho Unit 54 Muzzleloader elk tags. There were only 10 tags given out for the area. It should be a good hunt. We are trying to get ready, but things keep happening. First, and worst of all, my mom slipped and fell and broke several ribs. She...

Lyman GP hunter .50 cal load ?

I am not using a wad or patch. I tried a lubed wad but got no noticeable difference. I used this bullet on my first elk two years ago and had good results.

Lyman GP hunter .50 cal load ?

I am shooting a .54 cal. GPH and get really good results with a Hordady Great Plains Bullet and 105 grns of Pyrodex Select. At 110 Grains it turned into a shotgun so I backed off until it started grouping again. I think it must have been going too fast and stripping the rifling. 100 Yards...

    Jedidiah Smith

Does anyone know what make or caliber guns he carried? When he was killed he was suppose to be carrying a rifle and two pistols, but i can not find any info on them. I guess they were probably flintlocks because of the time frame. Thanks

    Elk Hunt Advice

My dad tried out the 250 gr REAL bullets in his 50 cal and said the was getting groups with the rounds touching at 50 Yrds. He has not tried them at 100 yet but that is next. He is shooting 100 grains (volume) or Pyrodex with a felt wad.

CA and the whole "lead ban"

OK I did a little research on the Fish and Game Web Sight. This is the link to the approved ammo. https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Hunting/Nonlead-Ammunition/Certified Go to the third link from the bottom, tombob outdoors. They make the ITX round balls. Click on the link and go to the bottom...

CA and the whole "lead ban"

It is kind of a catch 22 on the ITX. They do not list them as round ball but they do list them as approved shot for shot guns. I think it is an un-plugged hole. So it is approved kind of. I am working up loads right now to hunt with it.
