WANTED Period Correct leather cartridge box for continental soldier (1st Delaware)

Pepe does great leatherwork. I have two of his portmanteaus and a custom cartridge box for my naval 10 bore blunderbuss. I have had them long enough that turn around time may have changed a lot. Just ask Dave himself.

WANTED Period Correct leather cartridge box for continental soldier (1st Delaware)

Dave Kasmerik (sp?) does business as "Pepe's Possibles" and makes very nice leather goods including cartridge boxes. Google him for address/website.

    Cooperstown trading pc???

Are you planning on going to rondys or reenactments? Many rondys will accept "old timey" outfits that may or may not be historically accurate. Most reenactments/living history events are more particular & some can get pretty detailed. The only two women's items shown on the Cooperstown site that...

I need a recommendation for professional grade gunsmith screwdrivers

Agreed! Anyone who owns a gun should own the correct screwdrivers - and since we are never sure of the size needed on our next gun, it only makes sense to go with the big set. Like many others, I have Brownells Magna-Tip in their "Super-Set".

    Leather knee breeches

Thank you for the kind words but it is Mrs Coot who is the authority on 18th c buttons (but I do listen to her). She confirms that leather breeches are NOT made using the same patterns as for wool or linen. Think of how modern riding britches are made with seams placed to avoid rubbing the...

    Amusing/Ridiculous Muzzleloading Misconceptions...

Absolutely. Look at some old photos of crowded city streets & check out the history of traffic rules & signals.

Help, I am in desperate need of ' context'

There are some on the forum who have no interest in historical accuracy. They do/use whatever they want & if it works for them, they are happy. There are others who are sticklers for historical accuracy & try to experience how things used to be as accurately as their research & money allow. Many...

History of Flintlocks and Percussion Weapons

Bookfinder.com located a "near fine" hardback copy for me @ $32. My wife can give it to me for Xmas.

    Ft. Loudoun Market Fair

We were there for all four days & It was a great event. (Even if it was hot). About 44 vendors & plenty of on site campers. A stream to cool off in, a shooting match, Rye whiskey tasting & concert Sat night topped things off. Everyone I talked to wants to go back next year.

    The "Myth" of Cylinder Swapping?

Much Hollywood "research" consists of "whats in the prop warehouse?", "would it look neat?", "but it makes a better story", "needs more sex if we are to do well at the box office" and "nobody will know or care about the difference".

    Gun show prices

A friend who is an antique gun dealer refers to most of the shows as just another "ammo cammo" show. To be fair, he omits black plastic pistols, beef jerkey, crystals & hot sauces. I can only vaguely remember buying a gun at a gun show but I have picked up a number of books.

Renew the finish on my brazier?

If there is an old time hardware available to you, ask for "stove black" (its made for old cast iron stoves & is not a paint).

How to carry a long rifle on a horse.

The "traditional" method of carrying a longrifle on horseback seems to have been to hold it in one hand, balanced across the pommel. This method keeps the gun handy for use but carries the risk of dropping & damaging the rifle, worst case, a broken wrist (on the gun). The alternatives might be...

    Holster Storage of Handguns

Some tanning processes seem to leave some sort of corrosive residue in the leather and some leather care products contain water. I would be careful before leaving a gun in a holster.

Are you kidding me? >>A Rant<<

My Dad told me that anything made to be a "collectable" wasn't going to be one for long.

    Gun in Alamo

I do not see where you live. If your home has significantly different humidity than where the gun has been stored, it should have a long period of gradual acclimation. Years ago the Smithsonian acquired a collection out of New Mexico & had it in a controlled glass case to adjust to DC humidity...

    Primitive gun cover

I like using two separate cases. A wool case inside of a canvas case protects both the finish & prevents some minor dings and canvas if moisture is a concern (or just an extra layer of protection). it is easier to dry separate cases if the need arises.
