First attempt at "antiqueing" the 1858

Your grips appear too pretty to mess up too much. Maybe give them a couple of dings, but don't overdo it. The metal looks really nice, and I think the wood is near perfect too.

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

This is me. I build rifles for me, and only me. Someday they will be in the hands of my disinterested kids, or maybe a yet to be born grandkid. But I love, as a hobby, carving, building etc. My inletting is not perfect, my carving may be crude appearing to many. But for me, I am proud of the...

    SOLD Free wall hanger

I have to ask the obligatory questions: What it the length of pull? How much does it weigh? Do you have a picture of the bore? Sorry, had to do it. LOL

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Put the first coat of finish on my PA Fowler. With nothing else to do but wait, I took the opportunity for a final disassembly, polish and stoning of the Colonial round face lock. It is reassembled now and smooth as can be. More finish tomorrow, after some fine sanding.

    Got a jake this morning

Rich, thanks for posting this thread and your build thread. I find it so interesting and pleasing to see diversity over the usual woodsrunners, and soon to be deluge of machine made fowlers. (No slight intended, just an observation).

    Mahogany as gunstock wood?

No expert here but I have used mahogany on furniture a lot. It is nice straight grain but is quite a bit softer than maple or even walnut. So durability, certainly dings etc may be a problem, especially for a real hunting, outdoors gun. One good point, it would be really easy to carve. I have...

    CVA Mountain Rifle

My guess is a Pecatonica stock heavily modified.

    CVA Mountain Rifle

Two things. A little context may help this thread. That does not look like the CVA Mountain rifle stocks I have as the ramrod entry site appears to use a thimble, rather than the typical metal nose of the CVA rifles. More experienced readers may give more accurate info.

    Beautiful. Loving the inlay.

Flint works loose after multiple shots

Chambers parts aren’t cheap, but they are available. I have replaced jaw screw and other parts, so know if the leather trick doesn’t work, Chambers can get you back to shooting.

Flint works loose after multiple shots

Let me start by saying I agree with everything said as remedies so far (except lead) because thin leather, repositioning flint etc may quite easily fix your problem and you can move on. But... I have a couple of comments based on your picture. You say it is a Chambers' lock but you don't...

    Very good video by Dave_Person!!

Thanks for posting Larry. But I think you have mixed up Dave_Person with Dave Peron, Eva Peron's younger brother. (check Screen title).🤪

    My Recent Rifle Build

I really like the color you mixed up. The ebony is not something I've thought of. How did you come up with that at 6:1?

    Kit v. Factory

Having said that, I'm not stupid with money either. I paid a fair price, both buyer and seller are happy.
