Hey All,
I’m wondering if anybody might help me track down info on the person who built this rifle. I acquired it sometime back through auction and would like to know more about the individual, should anybody should have any information. I intend to leave it exactly as it is, but would like whatever info I can get to keep it’s history alive.
What I know:
- The 33” barrel has no maker’s mark;
- The only identifiers on barrel are the letters: “S. Dobbs C.F. VA.”
- The lock assembly looks to be a CVA piece.
- There looks to be a possible maker’s mark on the trigger guard? or perhaps someone just slipped up with an engraving tool?
What I’d like to know:
- Who is (or was) S. Dobbs?
- What does “C.F. VA” stand for?
Let’s see if we can figure out. I look forward to hearing back from you all.
