    Do I Clean Em ?

Those are not antiques. Clean and oil them.... Shoot them... I recommend Balistol. 3 in 1 oil or a good gun oil. WD is not the best..... It ends up being glue if lot gets into the mechanism. I have been known to put a little axle grease on the arbor.

    Brown Bess Options?

The Pedersoli is a good gun. It’s not really a historically accurate piece as a 2nd Model. There’s plenty written about the historical accuracy of the Pedersoli. It really is closer to the independent contractor guns post Rev-War before the India pattern was adopted. The Grice lock is all...

    Need opinion

OK..... I would ignore those holes for now. Make sure the barrel is set in it’s channel and most importantly the touch hole location is correct for the lock. Sometimes the barrel has to be moved back. Sometimes moved down deeper in the stock. Sometimes the barrel/lock orientation is way off...

    Colonial era handgun

OK since your lazy I’ll try to explain. Pathfinder’s pistol is Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!! It’s based off a Ketland Trade but with some Georgian embellishments. A Pedersoli Kentucky is 850 bucks on Midway. The Pedersoli is decent but it’s not in same league as a gun like Pathfinders You are not...

    Woodsrunner barrel coloring

Mike, Here is something to consider. Armory Bright is not a finish seen on an American Longrifle. Now nothing is wrong with a clean “bright” barrel but not polished to armory bright like a military musket would be. Part of the brightness of military muskets was discipline and intimidation...

Well to answer..... You do not have to have a ramrod drill. The gouge will bore the entry. With a chisel and gouge you can cut a ramrod groove in the bottom flat of the barrel inlet. After the groove is cut for the ramrod, you can go back and glue wood over the cut out groove to restore the...

Need help picking a first rifle

I get what you mean but I disagree about modern “Hawkens”. TC..... The truth is they are absolutely miserable in stock shape. They are made for a scope. If you want to develop a flinch,..... Shoot a Renegade with 90 grains and a maxi ball. Flint or percussion it does not matter. That joker is...

Need help picking a first rifle

Gun building is a mix of many many skills. It requires a great deal of patience. It requires a love of history and craftsmanship. I dare say that building a longrifle or musket correctly is on of the greatest hands-on educational endeavors a person can do. Week and weekend classes are offered...

My 1756 Long Land Pattern Kit - TRS

I agree if getting one book, Get Recreating the American Longrifle. Grenville County is a good book. I poke fun at Alexander’s writing style as I say “It’s written in Canadian. “ Grenville tends to be wordy but Alexander goes into detail, sometimes too much detail. So it takes several reads...

    Kibler Woodsrunner question

One of the earliest dated Longrifles is 1771. Many are attributed earlier but the Brass Barreled Rifle has 1771 scratched on the patch box lid. The real Woodsrunner is attributed to the Valley of Virginia possibly early as the 1760s. Time period.... Period of use..... 1770-1800++++

    Bazinga!!!!!! Cracked.... What to do?

No I did not. Really I don’t know if it wold do any good. The worm track runs through the buttstock at an angle most of it is shallow on the cheek side. Since most of it has been cut away. A dowel or rod would just be in the good wood.

    Bazinga!!!!!! Cracked.... What to do?

I’m typing in bold because this has been resolved. The long crack wound up being dust and shavings on the shop floor. I was impressed with the Loctite liquid CA. I did use use a make shift spreader to force it down right after application. I was impressed with the penetration and it was a good...
