Powder charge. How much powder do you use.

I use anywhere from 100-140 grains 2F depending on whether I'm shooting 50-58 caliber! Why? Because over a long period of time it gives me the best accuracy available! What works for me won't work for you!

Tips on a Traditions Deer Hunter kit?

You have to be a history buff to get away from all the modern BS thats ‘out there’ when purchasing an authentic style ML like a Hawken rifle! These have standard barrel sights, no leaf spring rear style sight or plastic ‘glosight’ up front; which is normally a copper blade cut to size as needed...

    Nipples…..

apparently aren’t all the same size-wise! Time before last I was wondering why I was having ignition problems with my GRRW Hawken and it was because the nipple in place was too big such that the cap didn’t fit as it should! Changed back to an older nipple and it fired every time!

    round balls don't do well

All my rifles (50 54 58 calibers) have 1-72" ROT and all shoot extremely well using 100 grains 2F powder with .020 pillow ticking and Canola oil lube or just a plain spit patch. This is true with both flintlock and a couple caplock rifles I have. I wouldn't waste my time trying to shoot conicals...

    Slug Rifle Projectiles

Here's a little tidbit of info that some folks don't know about. When these rifles were put together and machined by the Old Masters....so as to have the lands of the barrel match exactly the lands within the false muzzle.....the barrels were either made or ordered extra long and cut off at the...
