    How i make my caps

The ultimate Trifecta of self-reliance is the ability to make your own black powder and priming compound and percussion caps and lead casting Come whatever May, you can send lead down range at over 500 miles per hour and then some. I am also a fan of traditional archery and the David sling and...

    How i make my caps

That seems to be what I understand as well. But One does not simply mess around lightly with such things hoping for the best. I would hate for a good amount to go boom in the pocket of the sling as I am still rotating it. Like I said it has been many years since I have made such specialized...

    How i make my caps

I don't know if you have read my previous post about my interest with using the David sling. I can throw a 2 to 4 oz projectile at 100 mph with a fair degree of accuracy. I have made energetic bullets in the past that go bang when they hit a hard target. Things like this are very interesting...

    How i make my caps

I would assume one could cut the recipe in half? I would be nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs working with this stuff myself. Lol I'd want to have a full face shield and some thin leather gloves at least and possibly even a lexan shield that I could work my arms...

CCI Caps - CCI reply regarding availability

I'm sitting on a bit over 700 caps and I don't shoot all that often so it isn't critical for me yet..... If I can lay hands on a thousand I will feel a lot better. I will feel like I basically have a lifetime supply at that point... Unless I ever get my own property where I can shoot all I want.

CCI Caps - CCI reply regarding availability

A friend of mine told me that a gun shop in the next county down allegedly has packages of 1000 percussion caps for $100. I'll believe it when I see it. I will certainly buy a thousand. We shall see.

    2f vs 3f

I can't really tell but I'm only shooting revolvers at relatively short distance. I think what others have added here is accurate information.

    2f vs 3f

Well the stock answer is of course that the smaller grain will burn faster generating more pressure for a given amount of powder.... Assuming equal volume and or weight. I have personally put plenty of 2f and 3F through an 1858. I don't have a chronograph but to my untrained eye it seems...

Ya' never know what's up there.

I went hiking down the Peace River Monday here in Southwest Florida to shoot my 1863 pocket model. Sitting on the bank under a shade tree contemplating my next Target, I hear something a couple of hundred yards or so behind me that didn't register it first until I sat and kept listening to...

    How i make my caps

Now when you say isopropyl alcohol are you using standard 70% rubbing alcohol or the red bottle which is I believe 90 something percent isopropyl? When you get the component separately is there no hazmat shipping involved? Thanks

    Need help with caps

You may want to go to slix shots.com an order a set of aftermarket nipples specific for your gun. They will probably be $40 but well worth it.

CCI Caps - CCI reply regarding availability

They work great for my 1858 but oddly enough for my Remington pocket model and my 22 super companion they are the least reliable. I have 100% so far on the pocket model with the CCI number 11 with the slick shots

I had one recently delivered by them. First it was shipped by UPS and UPS sometimes uses something called surepost were they send it to the post office for final delivery.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

    .36 vs. .44 "Stopping Power"

I'm of the opinion that any gun is better than no gun. The most useless thing in the world is an unloaded gun followed closely by a loaded gun that is not where you are.

    Want to see some DIY!

I made one before but it was many years ago and I have no pictures. Keep in mind I'm in Florida so the main requirement of a tent is to keep the rain and bugs off of you. Don't remember what I use for the tart but I know for mosquito net I went to yard sales or thrift stores and found sheer...

Fears Deadly Deer Disease Could Infect Humans

We have so damn many deer here in Southwest Florida in the area where I live in, the herd needs to be culled. I won't go more than 30 mph at night on the road I live on on my motorcycle. They have to be the dumbest animals on the planet. Sit there and watch you coming for a country mile and...

    .36 Colt Navy that powerful??????

I know a Man in town here that was carrying a 44 cap and ball and the dummy probably had the hammer on a live percussion cap or possibly it may have slipped from the safety notch ( I knew the man personally in the past and he was never going to be accused of being the sharpest butter knife in...

    .36 Colt Navy that powerful??????

I'm with you on that. In my opinion a gun should be made of steel and maybe some brass and wood. It just feels much better in the hand, like a gun should

    .36 Colt Navy that powerful??????

There is a YouTube video of a guy shooting an 1863 conical bullet ( yes, I know it's even smaller at 31 caliber ) and I believe he says the conical weighed 70 or 80 grains. He is shooting from a pretty short distance at gallon water jugs stacked against each other in a line and the bullet was...
