    Wanted ff and fff

I neither need nor require commercial quantities of powder. The average muzzleloader is not going to shoot anywhere near that amount in their lifetime. That's a ridiculous minimum order amount for the average shooter. Does anyone ordering smokeless powder have to order 25 lb at a time? I've...

Got Some Cheap Percussion Caps Today.

I'd sure love to run across some Remington 11s. Just got a North American arms super companion and the Remington number 10s I have are working pretty good. They recommend number 11 Remington's. I have some Winchester magnum number 11s and some CCI 11s but both of those seem to fit very loosely...

    Wanted ff and fff

That's what I did 2 lb of Swiss at $32 a pound $64 subtotal. Throw in tax, shipping, adult signature required and hazmat it was $112 all said and done. now I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting 250 RWS percussion caps. I want to get some now but no way in hell I'm paying $20 hazmat for...

I don't think the average muzzle loading shooter needs or wants to order 25 lb at a time.

Unless I was reading it incorrectly it seems like track of the wolf had a 25 lb minimum

    Little brass cannon, again

I used a short piece of brass tube with a pipe cap on the end and a 1/16 hole drilled through it for the fuse. The bore was just a little bigger around than the firecracker. Firecracker would actually throw a bullet weight a fairly respectable little distance out of the end. Maybe 150 ft.

Does anyone even do this anymore?

Notice how difficult they are to obtain these last couple years? Why waste em?

I start by a very light coat of storage oil after cleaning. If I think I need to, I twist up some toilet paper and swab each chamber before loading, then just confirm daylight through the nipples. I never snap caps. Goes bang every time

Then there are the rest of us who have not been at it that long and we have to make do with what we have nowadays. I guess my post is more geared towards those of us that don't have 40 years worth of caps stockpiled up. I'm glad you are sitting so pretty on caps.... cherish them.

If you're doing that with a wheel gun now you would have to waste six caps.

I figured just being able to see daylight should be good enough....?

Does anyone even do this anymore?

Pardon the ignorance on my lack of flintlock experience.... But if you can see daylight through the nipples they're obviously not clogged

Graf & Sons has free Hazmat and free shipping now on black powder.

Can I bet you will reveal your source? Spill the beans....

Does anyone even do this anymore?

You know how they always say to put a cap on the nipple with an unloaded chamber and fire the cap off first to make sure that the ignition channel is clear? With as precious as caps are here lately.... I take the cylinder out and as long as I can see daylight through the nipples, it's pretty...

    A Quick GOEX Update

I just got an NAA super companion. I went ahead and bought my little baby a pound of 4F Swiss powder. Going to see how she works tomorrow.

    Iridescent balls

That's unusual because I have shot many lead ball from my 1858 cast from wheel weights. No explosion yet.

    Best lead for casting ball?

My gun tells me that the 454s are just a tad bigger. It actually shaved a little bit of lead but not an actual ring. 451 shaves nothing at all. Probably should have ordered a 457 mold but they say the 1858 takes a 454 so that's what I got.

Great big grains of cordite if I remember correctly

    Best lead for casting ball?

Once upon a time I did use a cast iron Dutch oven bottom to melt probably 6 lb or so over a campfire and cast some ant mounds. I imagine if I could find a small enough cast iron vessel of sorts that it would be easy to take my Dipper and really crank out some balls. But I'm not looking to...
