I've burned many pounds of regular Pyrodex. With hot caps it never fails to go off first time every time. Pyrodex P is even easier to light and you can't mention Triple 7 in the same breath because it really is harder to light. It's got to be an obstruction in the fire channel because it's not...

    Help Needed for Torn Patches

I don't think your load is too heavy at all. I've had this problem when my patches were too dry. I use mink oil. Try to keep the patches in a sealed container so they don't dry out. Your groups sound pretty good 👍 👍

    Proper powder

Pyrodex P is much finer than RS. If you can get it give it a try.

    Preventing bore rust

IME Pyrodex is worse than black powder at rusting up your barrel and bore butter helps it grow!

    Hornady Great Plains 385gr loads?

If you have a 1/48 twist ( New Englander does) more velocity stabilizes the bullet better.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Conducted a scientific study to see if I could set off 3f T7 with my stock nipple and #10 caps in my 54 cal. Dixie Hawken. The answer is yes. Ten shots worth. But after six shots I got hangfires. So back to musket caps.

    A question about pyrodex

Pyrodex definitely has sulfur in it. It's much easier to light than T7 and T7 is much cleaner than Pyrodex. I bought a Knight Red hot nipple for my T/C and it really lights T7 right now! But that nipple is a bear to get out. Need some good anti seize!

    A question about pyrodex

I've burned many pounds of Pyrodex. Use a hot cap and there's no problem. It's not quite as dirty as black but still very corrosive. Clean thoroughly and soon and you'll be fine.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Got out in the desert today ( lava flows actually). Turned my preloads into smoke and holes in paper. Had to adjust sights for round balls from conicals. Put seven shots through these holes at 53 yards. I've had worse days.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Just loaded some powder tubes with 2f T7. Cleaned the oil out my New Englander barrel, took the Knight Red hot nipple out and oiled the threads good. Heading out to burn some powder tomorrow. Might take Investarms Hawken a long too. Range report to follow.
