I don't know about 50 cals but I've shot my TC 54 caliber New Englander with 95 grains of T7 behind 535 grain No Excuses conicals, it's a 1/48 twist and shoots them well ------ but --_ OUCH 🤕! I went down to 480's for hunting. Round balls are more fun.

I've hunted with some 525 grain conicals in my 54 caliber New Englander and 100 grains of powder. The shotgun butt plate helps but you definitely feel it!

I still like my 54 New Englander and after a Hoyt reline it's like new again.

Just to be clear, not stirring the pot but a 45 caliber round ball is no 45-70. You need a little more weight behind it.

Is the rifling gone ? I know parker Hale made enfields didn't know they made octagon to round, I don't know much 😞

I make sure my locks stay covered in a film of oil after cleaning them up annually. Might help, but who knows?
