Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

I also use the JB paste in a blue box, good stuff... What do you think about the mixture of powdered alumina oxide (also called "Diamantine" by analogy with the powder used by diamond knappers) and compound oil: this mixture is used for fines “mirror” polishing by watch/clockmakers, and it that...

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

I often come across purely American or Anglo-Saxon words and expressions that I don't master... Can you tell me what exactly you call mink oil? I don't think for a moment that it is really mink oil, which would be far too expensive and rare for the simple lubrication of patches, so I would be...

    Cast or Swaged?

Currently, I shoot my own cast balls. In rifle and only for target shooting, I feel a bit of the difference: home-cast bullets seem better. But the good and pure lead begins to become difficult to find. So, when needing lead for casting, I use Hornady bullets, those are regular enough and good...

    Pedersoli poor quality

Overall Pedersoli guns are like Uberti guns: before these guns were the best, but in the last years the quality has gone down. They are as good at shooting but much less well-finished than in the past... I also have some small problems with my Frontier (also called Blue Ridge), but as it shoots...

    Shiloh sharps 54 cal

Those Sharps carbines with paper cartridges are extremely accurate when the cartridges are well done. That target is normally destined to shoot with 22LR carbine at 50 meters... This one is made for 10m pistol shooting but shot at 50m...

TC Renegade bad breech plug: fixable? Advice requested.

Nothing you can do more than a spot of solder, a little hammering, and a little "elbow grease"... When you've done that, go to the range and shoot, shoot, shoot... :D

    Nipple size?

Shoot them, there are good enough, and for replacement, the size is M6x75 standard (in millimeters) not expensive in packs of six nipples... ;)

    Grains by weight or volume???

Simple: this afternoon, I have been at the range with one of my Pennsylvania rifles that eats 40 grains for target shooting at fifty meters. So, I have been there with thirty-two plastic tubes with 40 grains inside each: => Powder flasks or horns are forbidden, only powder in plastic or glass...

    Ratio unmentionables to BP firearms?

For modern weapons, I only have an antediluvian Anschutz Match 64 22LR rifle, and for classic black powder fifteen rifles and pistols and not a single smokeless powder weapon. That's 15/1 for me if you consider the 22LR as a modern weapon...

    Grains by weight or volume???

Yep, here in Absurdistan, loading in tubes is a habit and an obligation: for almost forty years it is strictly forbidden to load with powder horns for target shooting (again more in a match) and also for hunting... If you need fifty charges for the afternoon you must prepare them before shooting...

1075 and 1075+ are caps made by RWS in Germany (that I mostly use), any real difference with Remington, CCI, or Sellier Bellot, and some other except sometimes for the size...
