    Finest quality percussion revolvers?

    It’s beautiful. Who made it?

    What gun do you save?

Probably my low s/n Parker Hale Whitworth, even though it’s a aggravating s.o.b.

    Finest quality percussion revolvers?

If you have ever handled a Pedersoli revolver, you would have had in your hands the “finest quality percussion revolver “. They do indeed put the care and attention into fit and finish, and they are machined to close tolerances. That’s why they are so expensive.

    Paper cartridge and lubed wads

I’ve been cogitating about this method. The purpose of the lubricant is to keep the fouling soft and help prevent chain fires, yes? Doesn’t the majority of the lubricant get rubbed off the projectile by the loading lever?

    Parker-Hale Whitworth - 1st shot and lookie-round...

I bought my PH Whitworth #191 a couple of years ago and I’m still trying to figure out what it really likes to eat. I love it but it’s been the most challenging firearm I’ve ever used. I’m very new to long range muzzleloader shooting so I expect someone like you will make much better and faster...

    Whitworth stuff

Wow! If only I could get my Whitworth to shoot as well as that case looks!

    Restore lustre to percussion locks?

Hi all, I hope everyone is doing well. I did a dumb thing. I accidentally tarnished the lock faces of my Pedersoli shotgun and so far nothing I have tried can remove it. Perhaps it can’t be removed? I use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean my pistol brass, with a teaspoon of citric acid and a...

    built a range bag

Well done mate, good job. I use plastic 2-compartment tube ‘speed loaders’ for my ML shotgun. That would be good design to hold the tubes and the side pouch holds the wads.

    1858 Remington (which one)

How much are you willing to spend on quality? And how do you intend to use it? If you want the best quality sturdy reliable piece you can get, look for a Ruger Old Army. It’s 1858 Remington “style” but super strong and accurate with the right load. They’re discontinued nowadays but not hard to...

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

I have to agree. A gentleman in my club has one and let me handle it. It’s in factory condition, meaning no after market modifications. It is the best percussion revolver I ever handled. The action was smoooooth! Perfectly timed cylinder with no stop-block drag, the cylinder spun like a windmill...

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

Thank everyone for your advice and suggestions. I’m in the market for a percussion revolver and there is a used but well cared-for Pedersoli revolver for sale I’ve been looking at. However I’ll give it a miss as I can’t justify the price tag. I’m just not good enough to maximise it’s potential.

    Cleaning between shots

Heaps of advice here. Here’s my 2 cents. When you load the ball, put a damp patch on the jag (damp with the cleaning solvent of your choice). As you press the ball home the damp patch will clean the fouling from the previous shot. This way you will keep the bore condition consistent from shot...

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

Thanks for your replies gentlemen. I found a couple of videos on YouTube about the Pedersoli revolver, including an older one from the esteemed Dr. Nemeth. They do seem to be built with target shooting in mind, instead of simply being a historical reproduction. I’d like to have one, and...

Are Pedersoli revolvers worth the higher prices? Anybody have one?

Compared to Uberti and Pietta, Pedersoli revolvers here in Australia are very expensive. A new 1858 Remington Army by Uberti or Pietta are about AU$600 (US$425-ish). Pedersoli’s cost another thousand dollars on top. Considering how much better Uberti and Pietta are nowadays than in the past...

    Euroarms musket parts available?

Hello again. I had another question about Euroarms that someone may be able to answer. The story goes that Euroarms bought Parker Hale’s parts and pieces when they went out of business in the ‘90s. So who made Euroarms parts and pieces whilst Parker Hale was still a going concern in the 80’s...

Just finished reading ‘The Destroying Angel’

I believe this book has been commented on before in our muzzleloading forum, but I’d like to add another vote of approval for it. It’s scholarly but engaging and the author obviously did his research and understands his subject matter. Well done Captain Gibbons, and thank you, Sir. The few...
