I'm in one of those buy this or that situations

Well said, if anyone in my family wanted to sell a firearm they asked family first then sold to an outsider. I was the sucker that said yes everytime with my wallet squealing and screaming lol.

I'm in one of those buy this or that situations

Well to be honest, and this is just my general opinion and I could be wrong. The Enfield will probably more of a higher value rifle. The Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle was one of the most if not the most cutting edge Muzzleloading rifle of the mid 1850s to the early 1870s when the last ones were...

Got a question for those experienced riflemen out there

I believe that this cant be done. A bore to about .50 which is roughly .490 bore is feasible because you are going from about .450 to .500 ( .445~.490 internally) so right round .50" (.40" internally) If you were to go to .540 from .450 you'd be expanding the bore almost one whole inch. The...

    Choice of smoothbore flintlocks

I would go with the 16 gauge personally. It has the lesser weight and the larger bore ( I have some pretty big stuff in my collection, I like to burn powder and make smoke). The 16 gauge will be a definite deerslayer to say 50~60 yards once ya get good. One thing you'll see is that smoothbores...

    Question for the Percussion hunters

There is no need to defend me, although I thank you for veiwing this thread. He has commented negatively on my replies before and of that of another forum member I know. All on a matter which has been put to rest a while ago. People comment negatively it is the internet. Let them it is fine...

    Question for the Percussion hunters

Quite the opposite with my Snider conversion enfield rifle I have experimented with 5 different ball sizes and powder loads to give ne great accuracy at up to 280 yards. Ive never gone to 300 yards as I live on a farm and work a farm which leaves me no time to keep casting lead balls, cleaning...

    Question for the Percussion hunters

I only owned one perussion rifle and its an H&A Underhammer .45 cal that I just sold about a week ago. That being said all my ML's are Flint and only two are rifles. I've always used PRBs and never Minié Balls or modern ammo types. Recently Ive had an urge in my mind to buy a percussion rifle...

What is everyone's opinion on this CVA Mountain Rifle ?

Yea thats no big deal thats what this forum is supposed to be here to do. We all share knowledge and as the forum even says "Keep Tradition Alive". I guess some just think that this damn near public forum is their own private gentleman's club where all new people under the tag of 40 cal are all...

What is everyone's opinion on this CVA Mountain Rifle ?

I agree if you look at photos and portaits of rifles with scopes from the 1850s and 1860s the scope sometimes has a dip but that is terrible and seems to be missing parts to the front riser.

What is everyone's opinion on this CVA Mountain Rifle ?

Easy christ what are you on about. This is a legitimate post I've talked with him on multiple occasions through PM's he has been on the forum since about December and he's been trying to get a rifle to hunt with some of his friends who all use ML rifles and smoothies. He means 2022-2023 deer...

What is everyone's opinion on this CVA Mountain Rifle ?

Damn shame the other rifles didnt work out. This rifle is a mid 1970s say 75-78 or 79 CVA Mountain Rifle. Right now in good condition after speaking to my local gunpowder guru when buying somethings to feed my bess. He said that those rifles are pulling $349-$399. Let me try and break this down...

Dixie Gun Works Moutain Rifle ?

It probably would be cheaper to buy a Kibler, that being said Bobby Hoyt is a guy most people go for to ream out barrels to a larger size. Also on a side note smallest caliber I have seen deer shot with was .38 caliber (.375 ball). The deer was shot at 219 yards by a 77 year old man. That was a...

Dixie Gun Works Moutain Rifle ?

My father has one of these is was a kit my Grandfather was given when he got out of Vietnam in 1968. The barrel was belgian not Japanese but still the Japanese one is good. Let me say that they are good shooters I mean they are real tack drivers out to 80 yards. My father loved it and I hunted...

I have a question for the Smoothbore crowd

Well let me answer this question for ya, hell smoothbore is my name lol (not really). First of lets sort out your Springfield 1795 question. The reason why they cant hit anything past 50 yards is because they are using a paper cartridge military load. I did the same thing with my first...

    Long Range Calibers

Yea I dont remember the old man doing much target shooting besides the occasional beer or whiskey bottle at 100 yards. He was already dialed in good on that rifle by the time I met him. Plus his rifle wasnt exactly .375 cal he just used a .375 ball still deadly accurate. I was talking to his...

    Long Range Calibers

My good friend hunts with his Taylor Volunteer Whitworth in .451" and last December he landed a 342 yard shot on a 10 point buck right behind the shoulder and a bit high. No telescopic sight that shot but he has since added one to the rifle. Ive made only an 84 yard shot with my H&A Buggy Rifle...

I'd like to get some opinions on a matter

After taking a second look I'd say the seller of that "Traditions" has it wrong. That is actually a CVA Mountain Rifle and judging by only one ramrod pipe it was made before 1989. Still a good rifle none the less.

Wanting to get a Percussion Rifle cant make a decision

A lot of cool choices here most settle for a nice Hawken or Zouave Rifle. I guess for the Whitworth it'll depend. They are expensive looking at about $2k for a Pedersoli and $2,5k-$3k for a Parker Hale and original is $11k+. They are amazing target shooters my good friend has a Parker Hale and a...

I'd like to get some opinions on a matter

Well hello again LonePine its been a while since you've posted on here. Let us see if I could shed some light on the situation. Lets start with the kit rifles. First of all the seller of the Kibler SMR is correct. The 46" barrel has been replaced with a 44" barrel and a 43.25" on the Colonial...

Jaeger Rifle or Long Rifle ?

Since most of the comments are "Get what you Like" and are completely missing your question I think it will be time for some answering of your question. Lets begin with the Long Rifle, for starters most of your long rifles will have 42", 44" and 46" barrels. They will be in calibers .40-.62 for...
