New to the forum and Muzzleloading and I need some help with a Rifle decision.

Welcome to the Forum, I live down in Price, Maryland on the Eastern Shore. I've hunted up your way before with another user on here up in Tunnel Hill which is very close to you. It depends on where you hunt. If you are hunting by the long runs of high tension wires or near the old canal locks...

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

My father has an older Montgomery Ward .50 caliber kit gun which is smoothbore percussion and he has taken 5 deer with it where they died moments after being hit if not when they were hit. He has an old Armi Sport Walker but it isn't functional anymore and we can't find parts he got 3 deer with...

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

My Christmas gift to my Grandfather was a Pedersoli Mortimer Flintlock .54 caliber Target version I gave it to him a week early so we could go hunting with them and at Christmas I will give him the 12 gauge barrel.

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

Yea I hope I find something he likes, he really liked that Bounty Hunter but he seemed like he desired more than what was before him. That is why I'm trying to see what other members have used to hunt with or have experience shooting or using so that I can see what other handguns might be a good...

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

Yea I'm now experiencing that problem locally. Gun shops near me were always good even during the recent years debacle to keep Black powder, percussion caps and lead ammo/ patches in stock. Now no one has blackpowder or any synthetics, no more caps and no more patches and shotgun wads. I put up...

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

All the same it gives me an idea of what to expect if the one at store sells and I have to look elsewhere for one, I will save that gunbroker page in my back pocket as a wild card as Midway USA is selling them at $800 but they are Out of Stock no backorder.

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

Thanks for the link but the gunstore by me is selling the pistol for $395.00 in the flintlock configuration. At least they have some killer value in case my father wants to sell his if that is what I buy him.

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

Yea I wouldn't doubt it can hold 5 more grains of powder I once went hunting with a guy who put 150 grains of Pyrodex into his 1856 Enfield Rifle and did it many times not knowing any better. The only problem I see with the Patriot is the barrel length it isn't much longer than the Traditions...

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

That sounds like a nice pistol but for my state's hunting laws a pistol is required to hold at least a 40 grain powder charge. Will look into it though to see if it would a nice target gun.

Looking for a Nice Muzzleloading pistol as a gift to my Father

Me and my Grandfather are big into ML hunting and we even use them all season as long as a firearm can be used in place of a bow. My father now wants to get into ML hunting with us. He used to use his T/C Renegade .50 cal but he wants a nice pistol to use in place of a rifle. A local gun store...

Decision to make on Jaeger Rifles

Neither are loaded, wood is in good condition with some handling wear and the barrels are typical of a 190 year old rifle, bores looked decent and triggers seemed fine both have set triggers. I can't take any pictures because the shop owner doesn't allow pictures of his merchandise taken. They...

Decision to make on Jaeger Rifles

Earlier this week I went into an antique gun shop in Virginia to get my Grandfather a Pedersoli Mortimer Rifle. I was going to get one for myself but there was only one left. While the owner was in the back looking for the rifle I found two original Jaeger Rifles hanging up on the wall. One was...

    Question on a Pedersoli Mortimer

He is used to hunting with heavy rifles. He had an old 4 fowler with a 38" barrel. It weighed 18lbs loaded and when it went off in your shoulder it either gave a Chiropractor a run for his money by realigning your bones or gave him your money to realign your bones. He usually rests his gun on...

    Question on a Pedersoli Mortimer

I know I have been asking a lot of questions about different rifles and such but this should be my last for a while. As I have posted before my Grandfather was looking for a new rifle to replace his old "Canoe Gun" for hunting. He wanted a Kibler and then a Whitworth. He finally decided...

Questions on the British Whitworth Rifle

Thanks for the input I've been watching videos on YouTube and people make it seem like this rifle was a space age device.

Questions on the British Whitworth Rifle

I would assume it probably isn't too different from a .577 Enfield or am I wrong in that assumption ?

The flintlock or the Whitworth ?

Questions on the British Whitworth Rifle

Hey all, recently my Grandfather made the decision to get a new muzzleloader. He wanted a flintlock but has since moved to wanting a Whitworth. So I have a few questions, Number one is can you buy pre made hexagonal bullets or do those have to be handmade. I can't find a mould anywhere on the...

    Kit rifle question

Well everyone my grandfather has decided firmly on getting a Whitworth with a 6x Hi-Lux Scope. So I guess he won't be needing a Flintlock kit after all. That being said I guess not only deer but Union Generals have to careful walking through the woods. Thanks for everyone's information and...
