I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

Carrying a gun like that all to close to parts near and dear has no appeal!

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

Fun to speculate but we will never know. You had two major and how many less mfgs of revolvers and so far no one has reported cylinder records. And clearly if any were procured it was not for a combat reload. Army/Navy procurement would tell you if the govt ordered spares (no reports of...

Colt ships arms to the Confederates.

That is a new one on me. Hughes was no more nor any less versed in modern aircraft design than was Lockheed, Boeing, Republic, North American and so many more. Japan was license building DC-3s and had bought aircraft from other sources. The Zero was a uniquely Japanese design...

    Issues with new Pietta.

45D strikes again! That action on the bolt and the Pin is almost impossible to see and how and why it works the way it does, well I think you have to have a 3D or 45D brain, I sure do not. Regardless he clearly knows his stuff and I consider it fortunate for us and happy he can make a...

Does anyone make/sell something like a snap cap cone to dry fire a revolver?

I alwyas put pistols in a category or hand fired guns. The sub category of Revolver, Semi Auto, Muzzle Loaders of various types. Add in some other odd and ends. Basically a single hand use gun, shorter barrel . More close up self defense though offensive use not precluded. Now...

    Keeping an 1858 loaded indefinitely

While I get it, also keep in mind, the dry fire only proves the last set of Caps worked! I only use mine for shooting at the range so no big deal one way or the other for me, I load up a few days before I go down, sometimes I miss a window and its a week or so. On the 47 Walker I never...

The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

I shot it Friday. Just what I wanted. With the unmentionable cylinders its still 4 inches high, windage pretty good. With Ball and powder its right on to a bit low. My super glue failed, did not like the snap of the unmentionable cylinder rounds. I taped it back on and kept shooting...

Should I or should I not?

I fell into a deal on an unmentionable gun some years back. All matching SN. In that case the issue was that parts were known to break. You8 could replace the part(s) but then no longer matching. I never shot it, I sold it to a collector. I had got it for a shooter price. I don't...

Does anyone make/sell something like a snap cap cone to dry fire a revolver?

Is there any reason you can't just remove the Cones and dry fire it that way?

The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

I should have chemically cleaned the pocket. I had my silver bearing solder melt and the good flux that goes with it. But I had tried electrical solder as well as non silver bearing so very sure I had odd chemistry crud in the slot. Definitely was careful about too much heat but the temp...

The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

My wife was both a looker (goddess) and taller than me. Never bothered me though she seemed to think it should. Of course it annoyed her tall guys usually had short SO. Right now I am just going to shoot it and see where it hits using both the BP cylinder and the unmentionable 45 LC...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

Back in my early days of pistol shooting, I believe I had a squib in a 44 magnum and then proceeded to not think and cock and shoot it again (Ruger). No barrel bulge and as accurate as ever, yes I was young and not so smart.

While its not pretty, I believe its more than tall enough.

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

Best velocity that is accurate is what counts and the conicals only give a bit more BC and at the BP ranges not really a factor (well and the normal accuracy sans 45D Work over) Also keep in mind, the fast you push a pure lead bullet the more likely you are to get leading in the rifling (why...

    Keeping an 1858 loaded indefinitely

Well my container for carrying my old dive meter on an aircraft? PVC and a O ring. Unless to have a cap that seals, you are going to get some exchange, not a lot, maybe not even enough, but its not a perfect seal either.

    Pietta Remington NMA Twist

My ASP NMA is 1-30 as was the 1858 Target I bought (and since sold). The ROA and the 47 Walker are 2/3 that (would have to look but maybe 1-18). I found it odd that there was that much difference.

    Keeping an 1858 loaded indefinitely

Loaded Metalic can have serious issues if left long enough. I would be less inclined to do that with True Black vs a substitute. I have what I think is a 60 year old can of Unique that looks and smells fine. Its up to the indivual if they want to try it.
