Lock & side plate inletting fix(es)

I'm dealing with locks that are poorly inflated. Possibly they fit better originally but the wood around them has been damaged, causing gaps. The stock is very dark wood and I am reluctant to try adding wood for fear that I cannot match it. Are there any threads, or even better videos to educate...

    Traditions flintlock to matchlock conversion...

With the price and lack of availability of caps now I wouldn't be converting from flint to percussion.

    Conversions

I guess it's good that I also enjoy air gun shooting. I hesitate to say it but, no "shortage" of lead pellets in .177 or .22 calibers, (yet).

    Conversions

Easier than making your own flints, huh? Are there such things as synthetic flints?

    Conversions

I've heard lately, actually always, but often recently, talk about converting percussion guns to flintlock. I suppose partly because caps being in short supply and getting more expensive. I own 20-25 muzzleloading rifles, all RH, as well as a few revolvers. Only one of my rifles is a flintlock...

    mule ear questions

Yeah, I can see shooters turning their underhammers 90 degrees before cocking them to see if the cap was still in place. Because caps are so scarce and expensive these days if I drop one I'll surely look for it. Reminds me of something I heard a flintlock shooter say, "If God intended for us to...

    Making a Mule Ear Lock

Another bump. Some of the best mule ear info I've found.

    mule ear questions

While I'm asking... What threads are normally used in a mule ear barrel for the nipple? Should the nipple screw directly into the barrel or would there be an insert then the nipple? Could a barrel with a hole for a drum be plugged or adapted to recieve a nipple for use with a mule ear lock?

    mule ear questions

I am trying to learn all I can about the different forms of ignition used on muzzleloading firearms, including side hammer, or mule ear guns. I have read two statements about mule ear guns that make me wonder... One is that some mule ear locks have no half cock position, and the second is that...

    Gun Lost :’(

Good luck. Some books were shipped to me back at Thanksgiving (2023) from VA to NC, and they have not arrived yet.

    Two piece full stocks

Robert, your gun is beautiful. I think the thin brass seperator looks good in there. If I didn't and wanted to eliminate one I would be concerned about the mismatch of the grain in the two pieces of wood.

    Two piece full stocks

Recently someone posted about building a kit, Traditions as a matter of fact. Another person asked if the op intended to keep the two piece stock or not. Do most kits with two piece full stocks come with the thin brass piece to fit between the two pieces? Why & how would one go about making two...

Same kind of Mom that would permit their daughter to get a tramp stamp, or also called tattoos.

    Proof/testing shotgun barrel(s)

Probably right, but it would be difficult to fire this pair of barrels, or any barrel without being in a stock.

    Proof/testing shotgun barrel(s)

I'm soon going to be to the point of wanting to proof/test a 12ga double muzzle loading shotgun. I intend to put it in an old tire and shoot it from afar with a string. How should I proceed? I've seen vids, like the one from colonial Williamsburg where rifles were tested-proofed this way. I...

    Restoration videos

I have enjoyed watching videos on the 'net of black powder gun restorations but after seeing a couple of videos about fake restorations, where the guns were trashed then "restored" I think I can spot a fake. Sad, kinda takes the enjoyment away. The builds are still enjoyable though. Hard to fake...

I'm wanting an underhammer but not that one!

    DIY lock plates

I'll post a pic or two tomorrow. The plates, that I might not use now, but save for another project or two, are currently only cut and filed. No holes drilled yet. I have an old original rifle that is missing the lock so I might use one on it.

For those of us without oxy-acy torch or forge

I probably don't -won't need a forge as I will only be attempting to make some springs. Although I do have one hammer that needs a slight offset bent into it, only about 1/32-1/16" over towards the center line of the bore. I'm unsure if I should try to bend it cold or apply some heat.
