What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I finished the Kibler SMR .40cal today. 35 separate work sessions. 72 hours 10 minutes total time, over a period of 9 months 19 days! I'll get better photos when the weather brightens up a bit.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

No. After looking at the lock disassembled Jim's finished internals are crisp and clean. Not sure I could improve them myself without buggering something up. Jim's locks are above the rest when it comes to internals. I really didn't see a need to polish anything.

Here us my lock from my Kibler SMR. I disassembled it used a few files and sanded to 400 using various files an wood blocks as backers. Then I burnished it with Grey Scotch Brite to a nice even finish. I used Jax Black and Grey Scotch Brite.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Spent today sanding and polishing lock plate, frizzen, and cock. Tomorrow I'm going to finish with Grey Scotch Brite I'm hoping to put the final touches on all the remaining parts. What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Coat #3 on the SMR today. Chamber's oil goes a long way on the stock and all over the bench when you knock the can over. Fortunately I had a thick piece of butcher paper on the bench and was able to recover the majority of the spill as it was contained on the paper. Still have plenty left unless...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Well there was a stain on the forearm left side from a worm? I guessed. Then while finish sanding the hole opened up and confirmed my suspicion. It was right between a barrel pin and ram rod pipe pin just slightly above their centerline just about the same size as the pin holes. At first I...
