yes try something simple first take barrel off stock tie a string and hang then tap it with a hammer. if sound like a bell then try shooting lite load while standing way back with a string. if it didn't ring like a bell don't shoot.

just asking, don't you compressed the powder and bullet in the barrel just as much as in a cartridge? a cartridge just made it easier to reload?

you know buffalo Hunters killed many buffalo at long distance with a 45/70 black powder gun. the need for bigger is why?

round ball are smaller you should start with 40gr. and go up till you get what you want. grouping or killing power. being able to go though 3to 4 in of card board or 1to 2 in. wood will kill. try all different lubes I like bore butter but that is me.

CLEAN OUT SCREW!!! if you all ready soaked the nipple it might be to late but unscrew the CLEAN OUT SCREW. make sure you don't lose it then get a pipe cleaner(tobacco pipe) push that in to that clean out hole. I have been able to push it in to the barrel. if clean and dry then push as much...
