    Thick flint woes!

Any recommendations on how to deal with flints that are just too plain tall, all the other dimensions are great but it seems like half of the flints I get are too tall for the lock on my SMR. I don't want to bend the screw on the jaws by trying to clamp down while the jaws are so extended but...

    Squirrel Gun Questions

This is what happens when you shoot a squirrel with a .40 with 40gr of 3f, shot placement was not ideal but it got the job done. Little guy chose the wrong time to show up during a woods walk session.

    Bullet board

I love me a good ball board! I use them for hunting, woods walks and range time. Mine are all made of some sort of hardwood, oak, maple, walnut, etc. I recommend finding a set of forstner or brad point bits as they make much cleaner holes compared to regular twist bits. I have always been a...

    Maxi-Ball in .36 Frontier/Blue Ridge

I've only shot patched round balls out of mine with pretty good results. If you are gonna be focusing on target and small game, you will probably do best with a fairly light charge. Might as well save on powder if you aren't trying to punch the lights out on a big ol' whitetail!

    Soy candle lube?

The only thing im concerned about is the parrafin creating that dreaded sticky fouling that everyone talks about with petroleum based lubes and black powder.

    casting balls

I push the sprue plate over with a gloved hand (thumb). Once the mold is hot, the sprue takes very little effort to cut. Then I tap the handle nut to release the ball, very gentle on the molds.

    Soy candle lube?

Hey all, it's time for me to make some more lubed wads for my revolvers. I currently don't have any beeswax but someone did give me an old "soy" candle that I was gonna use to make firestarters. I got to thinking though that it might be suitable for cutting with lard and making lubed wads out...

    Maxi-Ball in .36 Frontier/Blue Ridge

I have a .36 frontier and those barrels are mighty stout, it can handle that plus much more. That being said, if t/c did the work and recommended that charge, it's probably where the bullet will perform the best. A lot of times you will reach a point of diminishing returns beyond max charges, no...

Any other heretics out there that oil their barrels?

Yep, good ol' WD-40. Run a saturated patch before storage and a dry patch before shooting. I also leave the saturated patch balled up in the muzzle with a corner sticking out for easy removal and a toothpick in the flash hole.

    SMR Strikes Again!

Meat went in the crockpot and the hide is in the freezer until I get the time to work it! 👍🏻

    SMR Strikes Again!

For those wondering, it turned out quite mild and similar to pork. Went quite well with some Carolina gold BBQ sauce

    SMR Strikes Again!

Well his hide is in the freezer and I just pulled the meat out of the crock pot. Never could do that with the unmentionable pest extermination device. I I had to set up probably 35 yards from his hole just inside a woodsline, he had gotten very skittish over the past couple weeks.

    SMR Strikes Again!

Slow progress means more attention to detail! I sped through mine, I'm not of the creative craftsman kind, I just wanted a dang nice flintlock to shoot ASAP!
