    Blowing down the barrel

I don't blow down the barrel. I think I'd need to understand the science and how a very minimal volume of air, blown thru a barrel at extremely low pressure, with high relative humidity but minimal volumetric moisture can actually soften fowling before the remaining heated air inside evaporates...

First time gun owner. Can't seem tighten down the stone in my jaws.

From the video, it looks like there is contact as shown in the picture below stopping it from turning. If it is and you didn't have to crank on it when removed, threads are definitely crossed.

    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

Always interesting to read these long discussions that attempt to find patterns but that ignore the key factors. The answers lie in manufacturing, marketing, and sales. First off, for those that believe there are quality differences specific to a Uberti, Cimarron, Taylors, or take your pick...

    Im leaving a hunting spot.

Yea, nothing worse than those prickly landowners that say what they want to be done on their land. Sounds like you should have found a few more friends to add to the group that would have been willing to follow your version of the rules as opposed to trying to convince the owner of something...

    what capper?

I have a straight-line brass capper that's just crap. Like others, I 3D print cappers that work great on all my revolvers. I load a bunch before shooting and eliminate all the fumbling. It's the perfect combination and complimentary use of old and new technologies.

    Dumping Ballistol and Gun Oil

Ed's Red and MM Oil sound good, but if I keep to my quest they don't sound like options - no mixing just buying a bulk replacement, and MM Oil cost by the ounce is >= Ballistol.

    Dumping Ballistol and Gun Oil

To clarify, I've stated that my quest is to replace which does not mean skimp, be cheap, or substitute with a product of lesser capability. Lesser cost does not always equate to a lesser capability. I could coat bores and chambers with used axle grease for $0 and it would inhibit rust as much...

    Dumping Ballistol and Gun Oil

I'm usually well stocked, but at the point where my cleaning supplies are running low. I shoot multiple long and short BP arms quite often and therefore clean a lot of guns and go through a fair amount of cleaning and lubricating products. I've been buying Balllitol (love it) and various...

    Broken ramrod

A broken ramrod is like a broken ladder. Replace it instead of repairing it - the money saved is not worth the frustration and risk. A new hickory rod at TOTW is about $20. Spend the money for fast shipping, buy two, and get back out to the woods asap!

How do you transport your longrifle?

Get a decent soft case so you can put it in the truck bed. There are some good lower-cost options for longer arms up to 66 inches - https://uniquecases.com/product-category/musket-cases/...

    Antique Rifle Questions

Lots of good sage and well-repeated advice is offered, but I suggest you also factor in the other elements that apply here. Whatever you do with your rifle, consider the value equation first. Repairing an antique weapon to a level that minimally impacts value is very costly and usually creates...

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

I say your choice depends on the experience you want. If you want a historical revolver experience, then you buy Colt. From the Paterson to the Walker, Dragoon, Navy, and then the 1860 Army - which resulted from Colt's use of the advanced metallurgy of the day to reduce the heft of a 44. A...

Well said. Standing on a soap box is easier than propping it up.

I recall a thread about Paypal use.......update on that.

If you patronize PayPal (and other similar payment platforms) and increase its revenue when it has stated clearly its company's opposition to guns and gun purchases, your argument that you are an avid proponent of firearms is a joke. Argue all you want but when you trade your so-called beliefs...

    Shooting all by one’s lonesome

I shoot alone for two reasons. First, I don't have any friends that shoot regularly and none of them shoot BP. Second, I've found the BP guys at my range are too much of a clique with too much attitude - one of those groups who offer a facade of interest in having new members but that you...

    Original Brown Bess

Well, I have to confess that my lovely, flowing mop of hair is nothing more than a mere memory. All I can do is bow my thinned noggin and relay the best to those of you with enough hair to put in a bun. Enjoy it! Your point about adjusting it and you are aligned with the fashion of the period...

    Original Brown Bess

Phil Collins is in bad shape health-wise, is currently worth $300 million dollars, and will pass his royalties down to his family when gone. Not much of a comparison to one man looking to cash out on one so-called museum rifle. So NWVM.

and likely some skinny, underripe man-children who stay squeezed in their deluded world thinking others believe they have wisdom, experience and valid opinions. The way they complain has me convinced they are all woke school board members with man buns.

    Original Brown Bess

You brought a historical weapon out of a serious museum where it was on display for decades and you are turning to an online forum because you are curious? Somewhat hard to believe.
