I recall a thread about Paypal use.......update on that.

I'd sooner do business with the mob
I do not disagree and I can understand why there is organized crime.

But I have never understood the rationale for alternative payment systems like Paypal. Why bother? Does anyone think they are immune to IRS subpoenas? I will send a check. I am perfectly happy if you want it to clear before shipping. Or take my plastic. I can offer it in four flavors.

Paypal is a private business!!!! Paypal is NOT the government!!! Paypal can construct a contract that specifies rules that must be followed if you are going to do transactions with them. You have the choice to agree to the contract or not. If you agree to the contract and then violate the rules, you suffer the penalties for violating the contract.
Do you do business with a bank? They have a rule that says that if you make an overdraft on your account, you pay a penalty. It's part of the contract you agree to with the bank. Paypal is no different.
Do you have a mortgage? They have rules that state that if you don't pay your mortgage on time, they can take possession and sell the house out from under you. You agreed to and signed the contract. The mortgage company is a private business. Paypal is no different.
Do you have a car loan? They have rules that state that if you don't pay your loan on time, they can repossess and sell the car out from under you. You agreed to and signed the contract. The loan company is a private business. Paypal is no different.
Paypal's rules about guns and parts are detestable, but not the start of totalitarianism. Paypal is not the government. Paypal is a private business!!! You can choose to agree with their contract or not.
I choose to avoid using Paypal if at all possible. That way, they have no power or control over me at all.

If you patronize PayPal (and other similar payment platforms) and increase its revenue when it has stated clearly its company's opposition to guns and gun purchases, your argument that you are an avid proponent of firearms is a joke. Argue all you want but when you trade your so-called beliefs and the things you claim you hold dear for convenience, you don't really believe in those things.

And before we hear more about sticky's and opinions from previous forum moderators regarding the evils of PayPal, remember that this great firearms-devoted forum takes donations via PayPal.

Pure hypocrisy on both accounts.

You make a great point and in my opinion, it all boils down to how much hypocrisy our morale compass is willing to tolerate as a cost of doing business or as it is, to continue to be associated with those pleasures we enjoy. We can spout off one-liners about the 2nd Amendment or gun grabbers all we want, but when it comes to making drawing a line in the sand based on our belief system, most are willing to compromise those beliefs so we can get what we want or at least continue to enjoy certain privileges and products. I am afraid those decisions are also a form of degrading those beliefs voluntarily. Many of those soap boxes we stand on are in very poor repair and in danger of collapse.

Well said. Standing on a soap box is easier than propping it up.

Don't worry about Paypal or any other money service including crypto currencies! In a very short time they will all be gone. The governments in many many many Countries, including the USA have been developing a digital currency for over 10 years, and next year it will supposedly be instituted, and cash will no longer be accepted.
Now, I propped up my own soap box, got on it, and am now stepping down and dismantling it 💥🤣

Totally disagree. They are not within their rights to fine people. We allow that and like I said before....will imprisonment be next?? Where do you draw the line?? WHO draws the line?? We have a legal system and a justice system. Our constitution already drew the line and Paypal has blatantly crossed it with levying fines for legal commerce that they don't like. No legal grounds for it

I don’t like it and I think PayPal is a bunch of jerks, but banks will add fees for overdrafts and CC’s will hit you with fees for late payments. As was stated, the best way for us as regular people is minimize using it, and eventually stop altogether. We did business before PayPal and we will be able to again.

I don't think cash will go away quite so easily. The first currency was invented 5,000 years ago so I expect we are pretty used to it. And how do you hide digital currency under your mattress? Not to mention that in some quarters the level of trust in government necessary to accept a digital currency does not exist.

I suspect an attempt to eliminate physical hard currency will meet with a lot of blowback. Hoarding. Bartering. Counterfeiting. Likely see a return to gold and silver under the table in commerce.

Strangely several banks including Citi have eliminated overdraft fees and such. This may have serious repercussions.

Last time i checked some in CA's Gold country were still buying stuff like cars with recently mined gold. Others were bartering with raw gold as jewelry.

You can add Bank of America to this list. So if you have a BOA credit card they are anti 2nd. I trashed mine a couple years ago. When asked why by one of there reps I mentioned the anti 2nd. The rep didnt even know what that was.
BOA sucks and stopped using them over 4 decades ago. I believe they will go they way of all SF/Bay Area business. I do think that "walk in" banks are an endangered species. US, Chase and many others are closing brick and mortar stores at an alarming rate. The good news is that Credit Unions are becoming more popular than ever.

I still need a bank. I just rarely need to visit it in person. Payroll, etc are all direct deposit. I use my bank's on line banking to pay 99% of my bills. The bank pays some electronically and mails physical checks to the smaller outfits. They are aggressive when a vendor misplaces a payment. Been doing this for 5 +/- years with no problem.

A problem I see with a no walk in banks scenario is what to do for a safety deposit box? And the officers at my branch know me. Makes it easier and smoother when I need to talk with them about anything. There is a useful personal side to a business relationship that erodes or disappears when it goes digital.

I don't really think any government cares whether their is blow back, against anything they do. Unfortunately we the people have turned a blind eye for so long to their criminal intent placed upon us, they will use whatever means necessary to silence the dissenters. As an example, they shut down businesses, fired workers that wouldn't do their bidding for the vaccine BS, allowed cities & businesses, to be looted and burned, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be no safety deposit boxes as your all of your finances will be made visible to them. It's happened throughout history, as early as the 20th century, The Hitler Regime, The Stalin Regime, The Mao Regime, The Castro Regime, The Papa Doc Regime, The Kim Regime, etc..... and now the Democrat Biden regime. Europe is already designing this system to adapt to. Australia, China and Russia...
These governments around the world are weeding out patriotic military members and installing their own lackeys that will do their criminal and violent bidding.
Sorry to say this but you can see it happening every day here in the good ole' USA.
POLITICIANS & RICH ELITE AGENDA: DIVIDE & CONQUER.

Just like PayPal and/or Ebay. Don't like the way banks do business, don't use them.
I prefer a brick and mortar store myself.
Got ****** around by B of A. Closed my account, took my $50K and went to my local bank.
Wells Fargo started pulling crap on me when I was doing business with a DPOA taking care of my Sisters finances.
Called one day to get a few $$$ to pay her board and care. Was told "We're not servicing that account anymore"???
Took me one phone call and about 5 minutes to transfer her investments over to my local bank to the tune of about $150K.
Local bank that's been in business since 1906 treats me line a KING!!
Tried one of the local Credit Unions. Called one time to find out easy it was to get $$$ if I needed it?
Couldn't answer the ??? to my satisfaction, jumped in the car, walked in, closed my account and took that $30K to my local bank.
It's YOUIR money. If you don't like the way they treat YOU, take YOUR money to someone that will treat you like YOU want to be treated.
Sooner or later, the financial institutions will get the message. Us little guys" DO COUNT!!
Just sold my Sisters house. Opened an Estate/Probate account at my local bank in the amount of $600K. Was/Am treated like a KING!! :thumb: :D

Al Capone ran a bussiness. You didn't have to do bussiness with him. But if you did you had better follow his rules. Sounds like PP and old Al used the same bussiness plan.
