    Blunderbuss Patterning

After finding out that 28 gauge wads fit into the traditions .54 percussion blunderbuss, I have decided to run some tests with red claybuster wads. I used distances of 20-25 yards for my tests. It appears that the heavier loads are blown, with holes in the pattern. I think that this may be due...

    Bismuth shot questions

There's some guys who do use TSS in their muzzleloaders. I think bismuth is better because it isn't as hard as steel so it wont damage the barrel, vs tungsten which is harder and needs to have a protective wad. It's also crazy expensive, but the performance is supposed to be second to none.

    Bismuth shot questions

I think you may be confusing bismuth and TSS (Tungsten super shot)

    Duck Target For Pattern Testing

I printed some out vertically and they came out good, I'll just use the 30 ring as the kill zone and count the pellets within, now at least I have consistent targets

    Duck Target For Pattern Testing

I appreciate that Notchy Bob. I was hoping one of our forum members had a print out target of a duck so I wouldn't have to spend money!

    Duck Target For Pattern Testing

A generous fella on the forum gave out a turkey head target pdf that can be printed out. I was wondering if anyone had something similar for a duck or other waterfowl. I like to have consistent sized targets for pattern tests so my results don't get skewed. Worst case I'll whip out the tried and...

    carrying loose shot

Typically I carry pre measured loads in test tubes I got off amazon, they have a very secure top. I just found that a zicam bottle will hold a few pounds of shot, and they have a pill bottle style secure top

    28 gauge wad improves patterns

For this test I used an equal volume of each, but because 777 is hotter (especially 3f) I think I need to back down the powder load.

    28 gauge wad improves patterns

I agree. I want to do a few more tests to see if I can get even better results by dropping the powder charge, and what would happen if I fill above the wad to have heavier loads

    28 gauge wad improves patterns

Around a year ago I asked on the forum if a 28 gauge plastic wad would fit in a .54 smoothie. I recently found out that a 28 gauge wad fits nice and snug in my traditions blunderbuss. I loaded it up with an equal volume of #6 shot and 777 3f. The wad holds between 50-55 grains of shot, best to...

    Bismuth shot questions

Thank you @x_count I ended up ordering some #3 bismuth to play around with. I went with the larger size because my muzzleloader has a shorter barrel than most and I figured I could bank on lower velocities.

    Bismuth shot questions

I'm thinking of ordering some bismuth shot from roto metals for goose and duck hunting with my ML. Any recommendations on shot size or info from your experiences?

    Blunderbuss PRB

100 % I can see why they favored them for close quarters back in the day, you can drop bird shot or buckshot in there very easily, powder too.
