How to ream cylinders and to what size?

I am slowly learning that reaming the cylinder chambers is not a requirement. I recommend pressing a .35 ball into a chamber, removing it and then seeing if the diameter is larger than the bore diameter rifling of your pistol. If it is then you are probably OK. Attention to other factors for...

How to ream cylinders and to what size?

I ended up sending it to a friend and got it back with .377 chamber. I swaged a ball into it and then pushed it into the forcing cone to engage the rifling. Knocked it back out and it grabs the rifling quite nicely. .368 across the lands and .375 across the grooves. It is a difficult measure...

Is Cylinder Reaming a Necessary Thing?

Thanks for your input, gentlemen. I did have my cylinder bores reamed and am trying to work up a load because I now use .380 balls. I took a ball and pressed it into a cylinder bore, removed it and then pushed it into the barrel. Definitely engaged the rifling which is a good thing. I am not...

Is Cylinder Reaming a Necessary Thing?

I understand that the cylinder bore diameters might be smaller that the barrel bore diameter and not fully engage the rifling. So far I have been using .375 balls on my Pietta Colt Navy. As my profile states, "always a newbie."

How to ream cylinders and to what size?

I understand that perhaps the cylinder diameters might be smaller than the bore diameter of the barrel and thus not engage the rifling fully. I would like to have the cylinders reamed on my Pietta Colt navy in .36 caliber. So, how is this done and is it something I can do at home? I bow to the...

    .36 Colt Navy that powerful??????

That formula describes the total energy of the mass of the bullet were it to be converted to energy. The better formula is e=1/2mV^2 which is the kinetic energy of a bullet.

    Curse the Flat Bolt/Trigger Spring

I have had another bolt spring break on my Pietta 1851 Navy .36 today. Wasn't shooting, just showing it off when suddenly the action went to hell. I have replaced the spring and have more on order. However, I once bought a Heinie wire spring to see if it would work better. I found that the...

7/16 Loader for .50 cal Kentucky Pistol

Not a problem. In fact it is a boon because you can use the short start and then ram the ball home. You might invest in a muzzle protector for a 7/16 rod just to ensure you don't erode the muzzle over time.

How do I remove this mainspring?

I have this device and it is not easy to use. It digs into your palm and the spring ca go flying. I was using it on a GPR lock and managed to get it to work but it was not easy.
