24 vs 20 gauge smoothbore. need advice

just my two cents, but I have always subscribed to getting the biggest caliber you think you will need.if you need a 24...get a 20. that being said. typically 20 bore makes the lightest barrel from commercial made stuff in my experience...

    New England Fowler

i would say that the a brass but plate is no less durable than iron...when was the last time you saw someone wear a hole through a brass butt plate?

    New England Fowler

I feel the same way about that trigger guard dave. This gun is strictly for hunting, everything i am doing is mainly based on the fact that It will be a hunting gun first and formost. I like to be able to get a good solid grip when I shoot and the rifle trigger guard fills mu hand perfectly! It...

    New England Fowler

MSW, if you look there were indeed guns that had a mix of both brass and steel parts. I tend to lean towards the less traveled road in things I do . and you don't often see mixed parts so I figured why the hell not lol.

    New England Fowler

Dave, I agree with you. The brass guard was my original choice however since this is just going to be a gun....of no particular background I thought the iron trigger guard gave it a little more panache...plus the whole purpose of this gun is to build something......different. the but plate is...

    New England Fowler

this is just a representation of a gun that would have been cobbled together from existing parts. Yes that is the trigger guard im going to use.... well that one or the brass one underneath it lol. this really isnt supposed to be a representation of anything specific. As you can see we were...

    Improvised Tow?

I was sitting on the couch staring at a pile of manilla rope. And I started wondering if it would work in place of tow? Has anyone ever tried this? I have already broke the manilla starnds from rope in to a big pile of fluff....I even spent a while beating the strands over a wood sawhorse! Just...

Roy Stroh Type G , Range Report

Bill, this is the first gun that ive ever owned that can eat any load....with no adverse recoil. I've fired from 50-100 gr of powder and every time the recoil is most pleasant.... At 100 its firm....but completely , wonderfully managable...A true testiment to the design of the stock....
