Thompson Center Hawken hurts my face

Had the same issue with one back in '74, but it shot really great. I got smart and had it re-stocked and then it fit. Stock shape makes a big difference

    Ok you 40 caliber shooters.

Depending on the gun, can really be a large difference between guns.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Love building power horns, each one is always better than the last. Have always been able to sell them. Need to just find the time.

Just when you think you've seen it all

Even in my own state of Oregon, too much to see, I love the high lonesome. Lots of wilderness here that I have been to on horse back or a foot. Even the back roads in a good 4-wheel drive.

    Shame

    Cabela's chaps my hide.

You should see how they are here in Oregon. Due to current wait times with the state police, Cabels is dropping the sale after 30 days and not returning the full payment. The state is over 32,000 deep in background checks.

Petrolum products and black powder fouling....a chemical analysis.

Yes, and the patches don't seem to smolder. Nice in dry weather.

    Original Remington Zouave loads

Proper load was 70 grains, but if you get hold of an older Lyman black powder manual you will see a picture of what happens to a standard mini. A older compaction shooter showed me his mould blocks with the base plug turned down. I can shoot this round with 100 grains with VERY good accuracy...

Sounds like a scam, please advise

Sportsman ware house had the best price, but limited stock and limited amount you could get. Cabelas limited stock and crazy high prices, even in my small shop I can only supply limited primers an caps to regular customers.

    Buffalo Skull

You still can book wild hunts with no guarantee in mid-west. If you get lucky and most are, you need a few friends to help with the amount of meat. And unless you have lots of time and know how, that hide is going to cost you to have it cured. Love the hunt, hate the work after.

What accuracy do you get at 300yards with 45??

Believe it or not, done that or better at times. Now try that with a patched round ball. Out shooting with a formal state pistol champ, we tried out shooting prb at three hundred yards and did pretty fair. But my 45 with 80 grains of 3f had no more penatration than my thumb at that range. His...

    Sharpening flints?

I have used my rock saw to cut flints and do use my rock grinding wheel to refresh my flints. And the grinder is water cooled.

    30 Year Old Black Powder

The stuff is not a chemical, it is made of natural stuff and will last way longer than any of us. Your great grand kids will still be using it. Just keep your powder dry and go have a good time.

    Cracked Stock Question

    That rack can be repaired

    Shooting brassers loose.....

As a gunsmith, I have repaired a few brass Famed guns. Not sure as to how they were loaded. But they were LOOSE.

Have you ever considered the cost of doing business

Folks have no clue what it takes. They think they can build a rifle in no time.

    Houston, we have a problem...

Try using a different patch lube, there are lots of good ones out there. Olive oil, crisco, bore butter and homemade lubes. I use a mix of bear fat bees wax and Vaseline. You can do well with plain lard and cooking oil. And sometimes you just have to shoot enough rounds to get the rifle broken in.
