    Question on flintlocks

You can shoot either, I am right handed and still have no trouble shooting a left hand flinter.

    1861 navy questions

Buy Uberti, I ordered a Pietta to do a test project and had to fit the bolt and the hand to make the gun work. Uberti guns are way higher in quality. I'm a gunsmith doing this stuff since 1976.

Here in Oregon, we have at least three gun show that have most everything you need or want if you look. Albany gun club has a good show, Roseburg gun club can be Really good and the Willamette Valley Arms Collectors Associateion has a good one. The W.V.A.C.A. show also has some displays by...

    Death of muzzleloading

Reading history, a few folks keep using front loaders as to the fact that's all they had. If it an't broke don't fix it. And if you study Sargeant Yorks history, he and some folks where shooting front loaders for sport (pre-WWI).

Locating top of round barrel for sight mounting

Brownnells has a tool that has a level and a center punch. Set the gun up level and get the level centered, and with the punch over where you want the sight, tap with small hammer ect.

What does a longer barrel add to a rifle's ability that a shorter one gives up ?

With black powder, the longer barrel is better with the burn rate. But shot different guns with different barrel lengths, I just prefer shorter barrels when hunting in thick brush. I find it just a bit easier in the thick brush around where I live. But again, have done well with a gun that has...

    Main charge question

Each gun is its own self. That said, you start with a lower charge and work upward till you find the load you like. Some guns will shoot about any load, but to my findings so far my guns like an upper mid-range load. A friend and fellow shooter both have several guns of the same caliber but...

    The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium

I've done business with them before Joe and Suzi were even a couple. Joe opened up in the old Oregon Gun Works shop on main Street in Springfield. He grew the business to a point that he had to buy a lot larger building, or should I say two buildings. The store is with a warehouse and the...

Best way to safely remove rust

Most all of the replies have good advice. But you may have to have the barrel recut. I have had to redo a fair amount of old guns the were said to be beyond repair. Just a matter of what you are willing to accept. Good luck.

    Lee Moulds

CLEAN WELL FIRST, the mould will have some oil on it. Have used Lee moulds for some 40 to 50 years. They work well if you treat they right.

    Which powder

I I have been shooting black powder for just over 50 years, and am happy with FF or FFF Goex. Tried other brands, and and don't see that much difference except in price. Some guns may prefer one or the other F sizes, but if I could only get 3F, well I would still be happy. Just get out a have...
