    Changing POI in SxS

V.M. Starrr was an old smoothbore shooter back in the 60s and 70s. See if you can find some of his writings. Max Vickery used to write smoothbore articles in Muzzle Blasts also. These men were experts with smoothbores.

    Touch Hole Picks!

I use a section of copper wire. Taper one end, bend a circle on the other. Touch hole liners are so thin I don't want any wear on them. Copper is easier on them than steel or iron.

    Hello from Western PA

Welcome from the banks of the Youghiogheny. I went to Westminster College in New Wilmington for a year back in the 60's. Beautiful area up there.

    "Restoring" a basket case original.

I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. I got started in BP with an original .36 caplock with a Whitmore and Wolf lock. My dad bought it from an old guy from Finleyville PA thinking I'd like it. It was cut down to 30" and freshed out and the cherry stock was patched and refinished. I was 14...

    Thinking about buying this Flinter

IIRC Clark was a respected gunsmith from Canada. I recall some mention of his guns but because he wasn't American wasn't well known in the states. If you like this, I wouldn't hesitate. I looked up his name and this is all I found. It looks like an L&R Durs Egg lock but I think he also...

What kind of stuff do you all read?

I read anything from Dostoevsky to Stephen Hunter (Bob Lee Swagger). History, fiction, if it catches my interest I read it. My B.A. was English Lit. Right now I'm reading Kenneth Roberts series of novels on American history. I'm up to Rabble In Arms. I've finished Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch...

Most accurate flintlock rifle you own

I have 2 about equal . In 1977 I built a Southern poor boy with a Douglas 13/16 .45 barrel I cut to 36", an L&R English lock, walnut stock I bought from Freddie Harrison at Friendship and iron mounts. I've taken more deer with it than I have with a modern bolt gun and when younger did well in...

    Kibler lock question.

There is one other measurement that hasn't been mentioned. The sear bar on another lock must end up in the same position as the original in order for the trigger to trip the sear on the new lock. Failure to take this into consideration will either result in an unsafe trigger pull or no trigger...

Oh, the heartbreak! Imagine the disappointment...

In regards to FedEx, you can sign up for an account then specify where you want the package left. I specified our covered front porch. I did this because I once received a box of medical supplies that UPS (I think) left in the driveway under no cover on a Friday in the middle of a pouring...

    BEWARE EMAIL SCAM

That would be Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer. He was actually involved in taking down several scammer locations in India in addition to tricking your average sidewalk punk breaking into cars. Glitterbomb indeed!!

Lubricated Wads Contaminating Black Powder or Substitute

When I first started shooting C&B revolvers in the 70s I used Crisco over the balls until it occurred to me that after the first shot there was no Crisco left on the rest of the chambers. I started using lubed wads under the balls and never had a chain fire nor a misfire but then I shoot after...

Are we sure tapered touch hole liners are a good idea?

I built several guns back in the 70's with a touch hole coned from the outside. Not all the way, leaving just a thin section by the bore but coned about half the thickness of the barrel then a 1/16th hole into the bore. The last several rifles have used a White Lightning liner. To be...
