Are we sure tapered touch hole liners are a good idea?

I built several guns back in the 70's with a touch hole coned from the outside. Not all the way, leaving just a thin section by the bore but coned about half the thickness of the barrel then a 1/16th hole into the bore. The last several rifles have used a White Lightning liner. To be truthful, I can't tell the difference in ignition speed and I'll bet most can't either. Look up Larry Pletcher's experiments on flintlock ignition speed using computer activated fast speed cameras and you might get your eyes opened as to just how fast the human mind can react to the speed of ignition. These articles are scientifically conducted experiments, not Internet BS sessions. If you have a problem with the results, contact him, I'm just the messenger.

Qoute from the article on touch hole ignition....."By the end of my testing, I arrived at two conclusions that will be incorporated in any future rifles I build. One conclusion is that if no liner is used, any touch hole will need to be 1/16 in. or larger in diameter. The other is that it will have an exterior cone. I believe that an exterior cone improved the 1/16 in. touch hole enough to be included. It would, however, be good to test an exterior cone on different touch hole diameters."
