    Filling a powder horn

Remove the spout from the flask. You can put the end of the funnel in the opening to keep it open.

How to make the stock look old.

If you age the wood, do the same to the metal. One has to match the other. And add some nicks, scratches, scrapes, etc to the wood. I've never seen an old gun without some damage to the wood. You have to consider ageing the whole gun, not just one part of it. Personally, to me , it's not worth...

    Filling a powder horn

For a horn funnel I use a .22 Hornet soldered into a .270 case neck. Like others I use a .38 Special case soldered in a metal cap for a pour spout that's inserted into the horn funnel.

CLOSED Wanted - Ruger Old Army

There's several ROAs on Gunbroker. Be prepared to spend mucho dinero for one. I'd say $800 to start up to way over $1000 depending on what features like brass grip frame, stainless, etc. One started out as one penny and is now over $800...

    Amusing/Ridiculous Muzzleloading Misconceptions...

Back in the 70's a friend and I were shouting at a slag dump we used as a range with our home built flintlocks when 3 guys showed up with their bolt action 30-06s. Of course they questioned the accuracy of our guns so Bob offered to put up some clay pigeons at 100 yds and asked them if they'd...

    Homegrown Relief Carving

English Sporting Rifle. Wood from Dunlap, 31" Rice swamped barrel, sent to Dave Keck for barrel inlet , ramrod hole and butt profile. Chambers lock, other parts from TOW. Finished in 2020, my 8th since 1975. By the time I get the urge to build another one, I've forgotten all I've learned from...

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

IIRC the 1873 Colt SAA used the same grip frame as the 51 Navy. And as was pointed out, Colt went to a solid frame. Remington, Rogers & Spencer, and other solid frame designs are superior. JMHO and worth what you paid for it. 😎

What do you carry in your patch box when hunting?

Nothing, ever since I had one pop open while hunting and lost 3 English flints, a jag, several patches, and a vent pick. I back tracked but didn't find any of them. Must have hit the release when going through brush. I'm just glad I wasn't using my Jaeger with the sliding wooden lid.

    Please don't shoot me

Pennsylvania has a traditional season after Christmas, flint only, single barrel, open or peep sights, .45 minimum, buck or doe. At one time it was PRB only but I think conicals can be used now. Statewide it's 2 weeks, concurrent with archery (why do they get all the long seasons?) but several...

    Cleaning question

I dip the toothpick in water for a couple seconds to swell it before plugging the hole then take a small pad of paper towel and lay it in the pan and close the frizzen. Any leaks are caught by the paper towel. I remove the lock after cleaning the barrel.

    Passthroughs By A Ball

There were several mountain men who carried lead in their bodies until they died....... from old age. Jim Bridger comes to mind.

    Beeswax and Olive Oil

I use a mix of beeswax and Ballistol. A local shooter used to mix it up. Still have 2 jars of it. One day I'll have to figure out the proportions myself.

    "Henry .451 Volunteer" Rifle Arrives!

I have one also but haven't shot it much. I did find out however that pure lead should be used for bullets and sized to .449. I tried WW bullets and accuracy was horrible. I have a Lyman mold but I'm not at home for the next several days so can't tell you the number. I THINK it's 451114 but...

    Enhancing Traditional Sights

I use German silver for front sights and never use the round top style. I make mine square back, what's called a Patridge style. When I get the gun sighted in and the front sight correct height I take a needle file and file a small 45 degree angle on the top rear of the sight, about .020 wide...

    Rust bluing ?

Personal opinion, I'd never use bleach. If you want to rust blue, use a quality browning solution, then boil the parts in water to change the brown to blue. I used Pilkingtons rust blue to do my latest rifle.
