Filling a powder horn

Next time you are in your doctor's office, look for the otoscope (lighted device that looks into your ears and nose.) As for one of each of the three size disposable end pieces. I have never been charged for one. The are small enough to go into the smallest primer horn to the largest horn I own. To pour faster, place a small funnel inside the end piece. Works like a charm.

Made mine from an old goex can lid, A piece of brake line, flange in towards the inside of the cap and then epoxy in place ...since goex now uses plastic containers now, I simply transfer my powder to a metal one that I keep on hand for horn filling.

NOW I rely like that method. and I made one up to take to the range. I use a spent 9 M/M case for a stopper. it slides in for a good fit.

I made several of those using empty cases from#$% rifles. The plastic lids will work if you use a hot melt glue to hold in the case. Just make sure the lid is well away from the powder can when you use the hot melt glue gun.

I have a small silicone funnel that with some pushing, fits over the spout of my horn. I just refilled my horn then pour the rest back into the can. No fuss, no muss.

That's an old trick and a sign that you're dealing with an old soot lord. There is actually a name for that little funnel thing but it escapes me at present.

I fount this christmas horn at the thrift store. Both ends unscrew and will make two perfect non sparking brass funnels.

I'll say. If you use a speculum out in the field I imagine you'll be asked to leave and your wife's doctor is gonna wonder where his went to.

For a horn funnel I use a .22 Hornet soldered into a .270 case neck. Like others I use a .38 Special case soldered in a metal cap for a pour spout that's inserted into the horn funnel.

I use an rcbs case funnel. Happens to fit the end of my horn. Works well.

what about the cursed powder flask? it is a bugger too keep the spring lever closer in the open position when filling. the lever want's to close when you are filling it! any one else ever have this same problem? or is it just me?

Remove the spout from the flask. You can put the end of the funnel in the opening to keep it open.

RCBS reloading equipment includes a funnel that has a cylindrical hole in the stem to slip over a cartridge case. Works on horns too.
