    CABELAS HAWKEN CARBINE

Wow! Four different caliber barrels. I cann't even amagine the multitude of possible problems that I would have with keeping all the different components organized; it's already too easy for me to end up at the range with my .50/.54 range box and not have the right roundballs for the rifle I...

    Great penetrating oil

But, I love the smell of Kroil.

    Dont forget your powder.

When they do it will just make it easier to forget three things instead of one.

    Two rabbits today.

And now for the question of how to prepare the feast; it appears that the vote is for a recipe with a cream sauce.

Shot the new to me 50 cal CVA Mountain rifle

Haven't put a lot of different combos through mine, but, it does just fine with .490 ball, .015 or .018 patch lubed lightly with bore butter and 65 grains of 3f BP. That will keep shots touching at 25yds. and tightly grouped at 50yds. in mine.

    Time Management

You forgot FINDING.....although it's not as good; unless when you find "it" you say to yourself, "Gee, I forgot I had this." Then it's kinda like Christmas.

    Painting Sights

I really liked the yellow front sight insert on an unmentionable revolver that I used to have; until the day I took it squirrel hunting one fall when about 95% of the leaves were also yellow. It was like my front sight had fallen off the gun. The squirrels thought it was funny.

    TCA Hawken 50, S/N 500000 range

Scanning back to the beginning of this thread, after looking at your pictures, I see that you mentioned that the rifle appeared to be unfired or lightly fired. My bet is that you found yourself an unfired specimen (look in the hammer cup for any trace of grime; only the really obsessive...

    Kinda new should

A patched round ball is exactly what the T/C PA Hunter was designed for; it has a 1/66 twist. I believe that at the time that T/C came out with that model the PA hunting regulations required the use of round ball for muzzle loader season deer hunting. Find an accurate load somewhere between...

    Serial Number Dating a T/C

Going through an estate yesterday I came across an old friends T/C manual for a .50 Hawken. Inside was his half of a warranty registration card that listed a date of purchase in July 1973 for #26,xxx. There are no date codes on the manual. There is a three page fold out schematic/parts list for...

    bore lights

Had one once; it worked so good that when I used it to show the bore of a .50 something or other that I was selling the man said that he would buy the rifle if I threw in the light. I then switched over to bobber lights; the beauty of them is that they will fit down even the small caliber...

    Percussion Derringer?

Looks like a reproduction. Deringer had only one r in the middle of his last name; most or all of the reproductions have two r's. The reproductions are much larger/blockier than originals. This attached photo is of an original showing the "Deringer Philadelphia" mark.

    T/C thread pitch?

I have a T/C tang sight that is still in the package; it comes with an 8-32 screw per the instructions on the back. Those instructions state that, "All current rifles will require drilling and tapping." I wouldn't think that T/C would change screw sizes when they drilled the holes. I realize...

    Home Made Shooting Accessories

I really like the looks of this bag tallpine. Is it lined? What about approximate size and leather thickness? For the past week I've been looking at my scrap leather tub and trying to find my motivation to make something like this.

    Dovetail Filler

If your time, like mine is worth nothing you can cut a strip from a standard door hinge, shape with files and finish as needed to make a serviceable filler.

    Scottish Percussion Deer Rifle

Alas, could it be that it was not intended as a connection point for something to be added to the rifle but for connecting or securing the rifle to something else; such as a carriage or perhaps an at ready position in a dwelling?

    Cleaning patches

I've been happy with 2" square patches cut from decommissioned flannel sheets (estate sales or thrift store). I just make sure they are 100% cotton.

    Trigger assembly spring

I believe it is supposed to be a small screw; sorry no idea of size or thread pitch.

who all uses peeps on their percussion guns.

If you are referring to the T/C No. 7194 Tang Sight made for Hawken or Renegade models I have one here in the package; it comes with only one mounting screw as it is designed to use the existing tang screw in the back mounting hole (position the sight using the tang screw). The instructions...
