    TRU-OIL problem

I think Tru Oil produces a beautiful finish, especially on ML stocks, but you have to do it correctly. I have done ML stocks, shotgun stocks, and CF rifle stocks. Takes a long time to do all the coats on each but it is worth it. I just buy the small bottles, do the project and toss the rest. It...

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

No, you're not the only one. Everyone's tastes are different.

    Schutzen 3F thoughts

I've not tried it yet as I'm trying to get through some old Goex but I do have several pounds of Schuetzen 3F and 2F. I have read several threads on Schuetzen powder and the vast majority of the responses have been positive. Yes, Swiss is universally known to be hotter and cleaner but it sems...

    How do you hold?

The "post" rests in the notch, even across the top, with the post at 6 o'clock on the bull at 50. I try to shoot close at game. For a gong farther out, just put the post a bit higher.

UPS has outdone itself. I'm actually impressed by how massive of a failure this is, even Kiblers famous crates are no match! INSURE YOUR STUFF FOLKS!

I was going to say the same thing. How could anyone claim that was some sort of accident? That was deliberate as the day is long. Most likely an anti-gun whack job used a forklift or could have been a kid that was hating on the world but whatever, it dang sure was no accident. Is there a way to...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Mmm, not in April in the north east LOL.

    Osage Orange for ramrods?

I have never broken a wood rod. Had the cap come off one end of a factory wood rod once with a jag on it. My fault, didn't pin it first.

Newbie Question: Which side of the patch do I grease?

I melt the lube into liquid form and dunk the patches in it with small tongs. On a plate or a pan, I lay down a piece of waxed paper and a dry patch. Dip a second patch, let it drip off and lay it on the first patch. Alternate dry/wet and lightly squeeze the dry one onto the wet one so the lube...

    load question

Use the brass powder measure and forget the Lee kit. The measure is calibrated to throw that approximate amount of true black powder (ex. setting of 60 should be just about 60 grains of black powder). Pyrodex is a different powder and is "lighter" than black. Use the same setting on your brass...

Thanks! I needed a good chuckle today!

    In hot water?

The only thing boiling hot water does is burn your fingers. I tried it once, first time cleaning a BP gun, burned my fingers and flash rusted the bore red. Never used it again and I tell everybody not to use it. Cool tap water does just fine.

    Who carries a purse?

The word "purse" is not necessarily a female's hand bag. Purses were used by gentlemen and ladies for money and other things. We simply associated "purse" with women and girls. It depends on how frilly or feminine the bag is. I carry a Porter Cable tote bag with my daily junk in it. A guy I know...

    Who carries a purse?

I have seen some nice black or brown leather purses at Goodwill or garage sales that were large enough and had several pockets with a flap closure that I thought would make a dandy kit bag for muzzleloading. I didnt think I needed one then but Im kinda sorry I never bought any of them.

    Smallest caliber rifle?

What is the smallest caliber rifle/smoothbore that was or is still in common use? Not some one-of custom.

    The "Unbreakable Ram Rod"

I sell 2 cycle tools. What the heck is a "line trimmer rods"? never heard of such a thing in 27 years in bus. My archery friends used to make arrows from yellow birch 11/32 diameter. They would bounce them off iron plate time and again without breaking.

JB Weld on oversized wood holes....??

For the project you are working on, I agree, a wood dowel is best, but I have used JB Weld on MANY other things like this. It's great stuff. Everyone should have some on hand for use when they want it stuck for good.

    Bore Seasoning

I think its hillarious that guys who say you have to season your bore will also tell you you have to use boiling hot water and Dawn dish detergent to clean it.

    Thompson hawken upgrades

My friend and I both bought TC .54 Hawken kits about 1994. He still has his. Thinking hard, I dont recall ever having any issues with either of them as long as we put powder in before the ball. They shot every chunck of lead we put down them quite well. These guys with internet channels all want...

    Bore Seasoning

Seasoning a muzzleloader bore is probably the biggest misinformed, most quoted myth there is in the muzzleloading sport, followed closely by the "you cant weigh black powder with a scale, you have to weigh it with a powder measure" BS. Fortunately, most folks here have given up the bore...
