What am I doing wrong? (Cleaning)

I pour boiling water down the bore till it runs out clear. Swab the bore with oiled patches once it’s cool enough to handle, wipe it down with a silicone rag. Done

Factory built vs kit build value

Wow, I built my first rifle from a dusty old kit missing a couple of parts and directions. Since I didn’t really know what I was doing I think I did ok. I think it came out better then the factory rifle I acquired a couple of years later. It’s been a great partner in the field for 20 some years...

Using Butcher Block Conditioner as external protection?

It really depends on how your stock was finished to start with as to the best way to maintain it. If it has one of the polymer type finishes, oil will not do much for you because the wood is sealed, good ole butcher paste wax is good for everything. If your stock is oil finished, it's best to...

    New (to me) TC Hawken.

About the same way I ended up with my .54 Renegade. Traded a break action 30-30 single shot for an unfired with a T/C Tang peep sight. Mine came with the plastic but plate, I changed it out for the metal and refinished the stock, took a little of the extra wood off, added a T/C patch box ( I...

Where oh where are the shooting supplies

I never really worried about "stocking up", just sort of "oh cool, caps on clearance, grab 3 or 4 tins" powder, when I started it was so much cheaper to just get a case, patch material, Joann's has some killer 60% off coupons, 4 yards lasts a really long time. Kind of like being a carpenter for...

    Stuck balls!

When I started I got a 15 min lesson, fired 2 shots and was on my way. I went through the "chemistry set" patch lube and going through a bolt of fabric every time I went to the range with my box of stuff. At some point I discovered I wasn't having fun, and I really didn't think they were doing...
