    Best gauge

Thank you, have hunted grouse over 25 years. Really enjoy them, but flintlock birds, just have not practiced enough with the muzzleloader. That ignition lag is a real game changer. I guess to get good with my fowler I would need to spend a whole summer shooting 20 or 25 clays a week. Just not...

    Buckshot size for a 20ga?

I think purpose governs best. If you are developing a buckshot load for hunting, check you game commission regulations. Most states have regulations on buckshot for specific game.

    Best gauge

Question "best gauge for rabbits and grouse." Question "Also what length of barrel would you go with for a decent pattern." I will answer this string with "modern cartridge shotgun" experience and then transition to black powder. Rabbits and grouse are very different game. When hunting them...

Don't know about the Kempton Fairgrounds, but there are a number of Campgrounds in the area.

    Kibler smoothbores

.58 smoothbore - gives you the option to get precast standard round balls from Hornady or Speer. And the option to shoot birdshot. Almost two styles of shooting from one gun. The Kibler Colonial is a tad on the heavy side, have not handled a Woodsrunner yet. I also have a JE Brown Tulle in .62...

    Best value smoothbore

I second the Kibler two barrel option. But you will still have a heavier long fowler/rifle.

    Powder question

I use 2F and 3F in my .54cal rifle, .62 Fowler and my .75 Brown Bess. Just need to work up different loads for each powder to find the sweet spot. And I find that 4F for priming is the great equalizer. 2F in the pan is a little slower ignition then 3F. Now for my question, instead of buying 4F...

    Black powder

I have purchased from Buffalo Arms and Powder Inc, and have had no problems with either. Good folks to deal with. Be prepared to spend north of $30 a pound for small orders. You need to order a minimum of five pounds, any mix of Black Powder F to FFFF. Group buys, of 25lbs, are the most...

    Ramrods and Re-enactments (and stuff)

Ramrods and reenactments - I was brought up early in my reenacting days, no ramrods and never point at another person (elevated muzzle). Today, in the hobby, we see ramrods and lowered muzzles, why? To be historically accurate? Well when I have discussed this topic out of concern, the same folks...
