CVA Kentucky .45 rifle... $200 is that high?

Not a bad price but not that good either. Your pistol could use the same powder but it would be a waste of powder. Most would probably burn outside the barrel. He may not have applied enough coats of brown. It's kind of spotty when done and you keep adding addition until it evens up to your liking.

    Clogged nipple

I would get a better nipple while you're at it. Like a hot shot or similar. Nipples when new are smaller than a paper clip. Also it might be your load technique. You could be push crud down the bore clogging your nipple. With a nipple hole that big, it would be easier to push crud down to the...

    What was my mistake?

Yes, dry load. Even a small amount of powder would have driven the RB out or at least farther into the barrel.

POLL: Who Would Buy a .526" or .527" round Ball Mould?

What can help is to get a pair of diagonal cutters and grind flat so there is no bevel on one side that way it cuts closer.

    Fishing weights for casting RB

Yes, they can skim off easy. I did allot of range lead that has copper and other metals. The junk will float to the top. Get a cheap slotted metal spoon or ladle.

    What was my mistake?

I don't know the proof load but you can only get so much powder in there and still seat the ball. It will not blow up but if continued will wear out the frame before it's time. I bought one from a friend that had a loose frame. I asked him how much powder he used. He said he didn't know, he just...

Tumbling round ball to smooth sprue cut

A small piece of ramrod, usually about 5" or so with a handle like a round wooden knob to help you get a tight RB or bullets started. Sometimes people use a piece of antler or other things. Mine is about the same size as a door knob.

POLL: Who Would Buy a .526" or .527" round Ball Mould?

I would have some time ago. Don't know why but it seems more common in 54s to be undersized. I had a difficult time loading my 54 with .530 RBs and a friend of mine also. Both are T/C rifles. I found a .520 RB mould and that works for me.

Tumbling round ball to smooth sprue cut

I have heard of people putting them in a cookie tin in their vehicle. Just drive around normally for a week and that should do it.

    Truth or Fiction?

I believe they dropped that claim some time ago.

CVA "USA" Mtn Rifle - ser numbers

    You are correct.

Is this normal for #11 caps ?

I like it when they split, mine almost always do. I had some way back that didn't split and you would have to pry them off the nipple after firing.

    Drum to Lock fit…

My point is, it was stated it would break if it wasn't supported. Mine has lasted over a century without breaking.

Does black powder really cause rust ? I havent seen it

If I know ahead of time that I will be pressed for time to clean them, I don't shoot them. It also doesn't get put away until it's clean.
