Do You Like Schuetzen Powder?

I'm seeing several conflicting opinions about the quality and performance of Schuetzen powder on the internet. Not sure what to think as I now own several pounds of 2f and 3f. What say you?

I've been using Scheutzen exclusively for about five years now. Previously I had used goex. I notice no difference between them

i've been shooting goex fffg ever since 1975 but ran out 5 years ago and found a gun store in Bardstown Ky, the sold BP
they only had Scheutzen fffg so i opted to try anyhow and my TC Hawkin and Seneca and pietta .44 new army can't tell any difference.

See above, I only used Goex for 35 years, last year I got scared about administration stuff (not here) and bought 10 lbs Schutzen and then another 10 when the fear factor took over and thought I would beat the hoarders by becoming one and got another load in. Set for life and as per above NO DIFFERENCE in shooting, cleaning etc. Get what ya can

Schutzen and Goex are very similar and interchangeable. I think that Goex was a
little cleaner--but that may just be me. The big variable is the charcoal. And charcoal is
the time consuming art of it. Swiss is the master Brand for quality charcoal ingredients.

I've only shot one can of Schutzen, and IIRC, it isn't much different than Goex. The best powder is Swiss. Yes, it costs a little more, but it's about 10% stronger, and cleaner burning. The reason as I understand is the type of wood they use for charcoal. The worst powder I ever shot was Elephant powder. I haven't seen that brand in a while though.

Prefer Schuetzen over Goex. I still have a few pounds of Goex but not using it because I have the Schuetzen. Performance wise, there is little difference between the two. I like the clean up using Schuetzen over Goex. It takes 5-7 minutes to clean the guns using the Schuetzen. Goex took 15-20 minutes to clean.

Another +1 for Schuetzen. I've used it in our competition shooting and in doing youth instruction. As far as accuracy, no difference I can see from regular Goex. Is it better, YES in a couple ways. I've found that when shooting minies, if I use Goex, I have to wipe about every 15th shot. Not so with Schuetzen. Same charge, same lube, no wiping at all for almost 60 shots straight and no loss of accuracy. In my competition shooting, it's Swiss without question. And it's a Schuetzen product.

Let's be very very clear here. Schuetzen Energetics is a Company Name. Goex is a Company Name AND the name for their bottom tier product. Schuetzen is the name used to refer to the bottom tier from Schuetzen Energetics. Goex had a premium grade powder for discerning shooters and competition types called Old Eynsford. Schuezten Energetics has a similar product called Swiss, and it's hands down the best you can get.

One more thing I hold against Goex, they don't support work in youth shooting programs. They wouldn't return my calls or emails requesting support. When you process upwards of 400 kids per summer through a program, you're not buying powder and caps out of pocket, they have to be supplied somehow. Schuetzen Energetics supplies us with both powder AND caps for the kids and cuz of that, Tambi and Schuetzen Energetics are tops in my estimation. Any company that will put their product where their mouth is to support youth shooting sports is going to be in my powder magazine and I'll always be vocal in my support for their products. Goex can pound sand.

Just kidding. In my rifles I can't tell a difference in performance between schuetzen and goex. I think schuetzen cleans up a little bit easier. I have never tried schuetzen in my smoothbores. I believe I'd buy elephant powder right now if I found it for sale, powder supplies seem to be drying up.

I bought some Schuetzen FFFg. I wanted to try it to compare to Goex. But I have several pounds of older powder to burn through before I get to the new stuff. I too am curious about any differences.

So far, Schuetzen FFFG is the best shooting powder in my Hawken of any other powders I've tried. Best groups at 60 yards so far. Patched round ball. Sadly, the only other powders I have been able to get are Pyrodex and I have a lot of it.

I have used Scheutzen fffg and have not noticed much difference in 3f Goex. I think it could be a little dirtier but not so sure as the last few cans of Goex were dirtier than the earlier stuff I had been shooting. I guess I should have recorded lots #'s over the last thirty years or so, but I didn't, so now I am just guessing. Has anyone used Scheutzen reenactor powder for regular match shooting? I am a bit curious about the difference in that grade vs regular 2 or 3f. I will have to say that I did get spoiled by the much cleaner Swiss 3f...

Why wait? BP doesn't deteriorate. I have a couple cans of Goex that is over 40 years old, and it's still good.

110% AGREE.
I used 3F Swiss for 1.5 days in Pennsylvania back in October...at least 100 shots. No swabbing needed.
The next afternoon, I had to switch to Schuetzen only because I brought 1 extra pound of 3F Swiss and ran out! Won't do that when I go back next year. I'm taking several extra pounds.
Schuetzen Energetics is the best and you're right, they believe in supporting youth shoots and some club shoots all around the country. I totally support their products and LOVE using them.

I agree. Our program put over 1200 youths a year through our bp program. Goex, hornady nor speer had the courtesy to return my letter and it included links to our website, videos and pictures and our program was over 12 years old at the time since inception. Nothing, not a word of even reject. Schutzen provided us with powder. I will not use hornady or speer ball, all of mine are hand cast or purchased from fellow casters. I asked for any donation and a banner to put up over our range. We did this maybe 35 weekends a year. Tambi and schutzen came through as we worked with these youth totally out of our pocket every year. Those three companies missed a golden opportunity for advertising. Very sad.
