    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

This was my last target from yesterday 20g T7 3F two .454 rb Recoil with this load is similar to the 25g t7 200g conical load. There is plenty of room for more powder. I suspect you could fit 30g of powder and two RB in these cylinders? Distance was 25yrds off hand. I took 4 shots which...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

the bad news is I took 4 shots with doubble RB and 20gt7 @ 25yrds. each shot I got one good hit and one very high right with two of the shots but two of the shots the 2nd ball was completly off the plywood. I still think this is a devastating load for close and dirty but not precise enough for...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

Results are in and they are really fun. All shots free hand at a paced not measured 20yrds. all T7 3f. No Lube. 15g measured with an adjustable powder gauge. 20 and 25g measured directly from the spout. The first shot with two .454rb and I pulled low due two expecting a big bang. Recoil...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

I like puns and almost always call those historical signs by the hwy Hysterical markers, I have a spare cylinder that I buggered up the threads on one of the nipples so its a 5 shot spare. Right now it has a single load of 15g of T7 3f and two .454 140.47g round ball compressed. will this...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

So this is bugging me and now I want to try it. .454 RB weighs 140.47g two of them would be 281g I have accidently double balled both of my single shot percussion pistols with no ill effects and surprisingly good accuracy results. the last time i did this I had both .50cal balls about six...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

With 25g of t7 there is enough room for both a 200g conical and a.454 rb. I think the move would be to try two round balls first... That would be a nasty load. Wouldn't be brave enough to do that to my 1858 .. I want to keep this one..

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

I put two steiner tractor catalogs together and a stack of Muzzle blast magazines for a total of 4 1/2 inches of news print and glossy print. 200g lee conical 25g T7 most of them went all the way through. I found two of them, the larger one went through both tractor parts catalogs and about an...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

so I was able to find my way around the pietta site and the 1858 and 1851 do in fact have 1/30 twist but that seems to be plenty for conicals in my 1858. looking down the barrel it certainly does not look like a slow twist.

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

both of mine 2021 and 2022 have pretty fast looking twists. at least 1in 20 why would you do a slow twist for RB when all the good RB target pistols have 1/18 1/20 etc.

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

I did an interesting test today. I took a Stiener tractor parts catalogue and shot it @ 25yrds with 200g Lee conical and 25g T7 3f. I fully expected to not penetrate all the way through but it did. I then stacked a 2nd catalogue in front of the first and shot that @ 25yrds with the same load...

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

I use a lubed patch on my ball. that is all the whiping down that you need, have shot 200 rnds without an extra cleaning. any time you do a cleaning without a load in the chamber you risk a missfire on your next shot. I do shoot percussion though.

Newbie Looking for Advice on Failed Ignition of Main Charge

never leave home without either a loaded rig or one thats ready to be loaded. If I am on the road I load it at the end of the shooting session and then clean the bore with a baristol patch after it allready has a ball in it so no contamination of the firing chamber. thats the same thing I do at...

I use the air compressor to get my barrel clean and clear. Much better than wasting a cap.
