    Powder flask

I lost a screw out of my flask. Went to the hardware store and bought a selection of tiny screws. One fit perfectly. The head sticks out, but as beat up as my flask is it's no big deal.

    New Pietta"s cap size

I've never seen a Remington #10 cap, but CCI #11s fall off the factory nipples of my new Pietta '51 Navy. They fit perfect on Slixshots though.

Sueding the smooth side of commercial tanned buckskin?

I've never tried it, but I have read that the mesh sand paper used for drywall with an electric sander works well.

    No Buttplate?

It's easy to inlet a toe plate and a piece of antler or bone to make a heel protecter.

    Piercing your nipples?

Blackie Thomas has a vid on YouTube about modifying nipples to split the cap and avoid cap jams.

    Funny Muzzleloading Experience

My first time ever shooting a muzzle loader was my just finished TC Hawken kit. This was in 1980 so all I had was books and magazines to learn from. Luckily I studied well and everything went well. I was at an informal range in the North Maine woods, and a bunch of guys were there sighting in...

Thinking about getting my first cap and ball revolver.

I started shooting black power in 1979. Got my first C&B revolver for Christmas 2021. It was like starting over. The only piece of equipment I had that was appropriate was a power measure. I got a Pieta 1851 Navy 36.

Batjack JW has a YouTube channel and has done a lot of experimenting with this including making his own polymer grips.

    Knives?

I'm not knocking any custom knives. A lot of them are beautiful, but my understanding is that knives were shipped in barrels from England for the fur trade and would have been very plain.

Yeah, I Used To Shoot 'em

Cleaning immediately kind of depends on where you live. I always do a light cleaning at the range but often don't get around to taking things apart for a few days. Living in Colorado with very low humidity means I have never noticed any difference from when I left the range until I got serious...

    Cap & Ball Cleaning/Barrel Removal

I'm only a year younger than you. Been shooting BP since 1980. Watched a lot of very good YouTube videos to try and learn about C&B revolvers. Got one for Christmas and still have a lot to learn. Mike Belavue , Blackie Thomas, Guns of the West and Old Ranger are all very good and approach the...

    Cap & Ball Cleaning/Barrel Removal

On my new Pietta there was a sizable bur on the hole in the arbor where the wedge goes through. Cleaning that up made it much easier to get the barrel off.

    Very sad barn find

Zulu was my first thought when I saw the pics. My Grandpa had one when I was a kid. No idea what happened to it. Thanks Deerstalker for confirming my suspicion.
